Poll: Six Dems Beat Trump In Head-To-Head Matchups

Just in from Quinnipiac Polling:

In a first look at head-to-head 2020 presidential matchups nationwide, several Democratic challengers lead President Donald Trump, with former Vice President Joseph Biden ahead 53 – 40 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today.

In other matchups, the independent Quinnipiac Poll finds: Sen. Bernie Sanders over President Trump 51 – 42 percent; Sen. Kamala Harris ahead of Trump 49 – 41 percent; Sen. Elizabeth Warren tops Trump 49 – 42 percent; South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg edges Trump 47 – 42 percent; Sen. Cory Booker by a nose over Trump 47 – 42 percent.

In the Trump-Biden matchup, women back Biden 60 – 34 percent, as men are divided with 47 percent for Biden and 46 percent for Trump. White voters are divided with 47 percent for Trump and 46 percent for Biden. The Democrat leads 85 – 12 percent among black voters and 58 – 33 percent among Hispanic voters.

1. General election polls taken prior to June of the election year are meaningless. Ignore these.

I know people are seeking any good news they can; but these GE polls are worth less than the pixels displaying them.

First, that people other than Joe Biden could beat Trump, so percieved electability should not be an issue.

Second, at least for the moment, it isn't about progressive vs moderate ideology since everyone from Sanders to Biden are beating Trump

There is NOT just ONE person who can beat trump. Once the debates start and people can see the "other" candidates and their views on the issues, the numbers will change. I think Harris, Warren, Klobuchar, and mayor Pete will see their numbers go up. There could also be some surprises with those in the lower poll numbers.

This race if far from over, and far from being good news for trump.

5. And national polls are pointless, equivalent to "popular vote." HRC would win this too.

What matters is who beats Trump in WI/MI/PA. Or OH/FL. Or maybe TX.

We should know by now, any poll of who gets the most votes nationwide does NOT provide any indication of who will be in the White House. We've known this at least since 2000, and still people pay attention to these totally useless polls.

Rachel has pointed out that at this time in the past, Jeb Bush had a healthy lead in the Republican primary. There were other examples, but I can't remember them now.
