Biden joins the call for a Democratic candidates' debate on climate change.

Last edited Tue Jun 11, 2019, 07:42 PM - Edit history (1)

OTTUMWA, Iowa — Joe Biden told a climate change activist Tuesday he supported the idea of a presidential candidates’ debate focused on climate change, an idea pushed by climate activists that so far has been rejected by the Democratic Party.

“That’s what we should be doing,” the former vice president told a Greenpeace activist on a rope line after a speech here. “I’m all in, man. Take a look at what I’m talking about – and by the way, the first climate change plan in the history of the Congress? Biden.”>>>

Why would a Town Hall forum involving ten or so candidates be any better? pnwmom Jun 2019 #6
it wouldn't be 10 in one town hall. they would have many town halls including their own JI7 Jun 2019 #12

It always was a great idea, which is why most of the Democratic candidates fully supported it early on.

And, btw, shouldn't those candidates have a major say in what they want to debate?! They're the ones out on the stump talking to real people every day and hearing voters' concerns. We The People, through our future representative, should have the biggest influence on choosing debate issues.

My focus is on beating trump. trump does not want to run against Biden. It's a numbers game. trump's plan of winning Pennsylvania is gone. Biden was born in PA and lived there when young. We need a strong Progressive Dem VP candidate. I would love to see a Biden/Harris ticket. Then she would be positioned to become President. Americans are slow to accept women leaders. It's not who I like or who you like. It's who can win the Electoral College and beat trump. That's all that matters.

This is not the issue that will beat trump. Mind you, it won’t hurt a candidate in the general unless they push a total economy changing plan like the Green New Deal.

But we do not get that many hours of uninterrupted Democratic Ideas. We should use those for issues that will help us win the general election.

Healthcare
Fair wages
Improved safety net for seniors
Improved care for veterans rather than lip service

We need to keep our eye on the prize. All of our candidates will push a green agenda and get us back into the Paris Accords.

And for those who say “unless we do this NOW we are all gonna die?” That is hyperbole and even if true is not a winning general election message. And if we lose the general, it’s all talk.
