Here's How the Candidates Will Be Divided for the Democratic Debates

Joseph R. Biden Jr. will share the stage with Bernie Sanders on one night, and Elizabeth Warren will face off against Beto O’Rourke on another in the first Democratic presidential primary debates in Miami this month, according to campaign officials who were present for the official drawing.

The 20 candidates participating in the debates were split into two groups of 10, one of which will debate on June 26 and the other on June 27. Officials had said they would seek to evenly and randomly divide the top-tier candidates over the two nights, in events that will air on NBC.

Here are the lineups:

Night One: June 26

Cory Booker, senator from New Jersey

Julián Castro, former housing secretary

Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York

John Delaney, former representative from Maryland

Tulsi Gabbard, representative from Hawaii

Jay Inslee, governor of Washington

Amy Klobuchar, senator from Minnesota

Beto O’Rourke, former representative from Texas

Tim Ryan, representative from Ohio

Elizabeth Warren, senator from Massachusetts

Night Two: June 27

Michael Bennet, senator from Colorado

Joseph R. Biden Jr., former vice president

Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind.

Kirsten Gillibrand, senator from New York

Kamala Harris, senator from California

John Hickenlooper, former governor of Colorado

Bernie Sanders, senator from Vermont

Eric Swalwell, representative from California

Marianne Williamson, self-help author

Andrew Yang, former tech executive

The Democratic National Committee has announced which presidential candidates will actually share the stage at their two-night first debate.

Wednesday, June 26 will feature this roster (the “orange” group): Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Julián Castro, Tim Ryan, Bill de Blasio, and Jay Inslee.

Then, Thursday, June 27 will feature this lineup (the “purple” group): Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Kirsten Gillibrand, Michael Bennet, Eric Swalwell, Marianne Williamson, and Andrew Yang.

The event will take place from 9 pm to 11 pm Eastern time each night, and be aired on NBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo.

would be split and then the oneses (the single digit) would, too.

7. I thought it was as fair as it was going to get (without alienating supporters of any candidate).

A mixture of senior advisers, campaign managers and press representatives were in the room for the drawing. The names were drawn from two boxes wrapped in white gift wrap with gold polka dots. The names of the candidates who had received an average of 2 percent support in polls or higher were in one box, and the other candidates were in the other.

Word about how exactly the group would be divided came one day after the Democratic National Committee made clear which members of the 23-person field had qualified for the debates — and which had not.

I think night two is going to get higher ratings. Bennet and Swalwell lucked out.

Night one will be about Booker, Beto, and Warren.

9. Warren and Beto lucked out

First night will be mostly people going after Beto and Warren which will give them opportunity to reply more about actual policy and get more time. On the second night is going to be all about egos trying to battle against each other to stand out. The only downside I can see for day 1 is that Inslee is probably going to try to turn the whole damn debate about only Climate Change. Beto is strong on that topic but it's not the ONLY issue.

10. Warren got screwed

This is exactly the kind of thing I was afraid might happen. She is basically in 2nd or 3rd place, let's call it 3rd. Her night has 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th. The other night has 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th. She basically got punished for doing well. This is what happens when we buy into false narratives. Thanks to us buying into a false narrative about 2016 we went totally overboard to be 'fair' to the likes of Marianne Williamson and Andrew Yang at the huge expense of Elizabeth Warren. Her campaign has a right to be furious. It is ridiculous that she has a vastly worse slot than two people who have literally no chance at all of being President while she has a better chance of winning our nomination than anyone who isn't Biden, Sanders, and Harris (and she might have a better shot than Harris does). This is a total disgrace. Oh and she gets the first night so she doesn't even get to respond to the other main candidates.

Rather than just close-mindedly dismissing him based on his current polling position.

He's made combating the most serious issue of our times his number one goal. Not one of the most. The. We're talking about the continuation of our species here. The economy, civil rights, gun violence, and everything else will not mean a fucking thing if the Earth is underwater. I don't know why this concept is so hard for people to grasp. No other candidate running has even come close to the level of dedication and commitment he has displayed on this impending existential threat.

He should be a top-tier candidate easily and definitely should be taken more seriously than guys like Beto and Pete. It's depressing.
