(7,447 posts)Advantages:
1. Advantage Warren as she's by far the top candidate that first night.
2. Advantage to Booker, O'Rourke and Klobachur as they will get a chance to be second billed on the first night. Opportunity knocks.
3. Advantage Biden as he avoids having to scrape with and answer to Warren directly, his greatest foil IMO.
Neutral:
1. Sanders. OTOH, I think he benefits from not being paired with Warren and he can contrast himself with Biden as the sole top tier progressive on the night. OTOH, I think having three top tier candidates in Buttigieg, Harris, and Biden could dilute his impact. The conversation could flow easily away from his signature issues.
2. Harris. Same thing. She can distinguish a bit, but there are also three other top tier candidates so it's going to be hard for anyone to break out.
Disadvantages:
1. Buttigieg. I think he would have benefited more from being on the first night with Warren and no other top tier contender. Being in this group could dilute his ability to impact. The focus is primarily going to be on Biden and Sanders so he's going to have a hard time standing out from that.
2. Everyone else not the big three on the second night. I just think the Biden/Bernie and to a lesser extent Harris trio are going to be the dominant group that night.
