Which Democrats Are Leading in the 2020 Presidential Race?
Heres the latest - June 14, 2019
There is a clear leader in the Democratic field: Joseph R. Biden Jr. He tops every poll and dominates news coverage. While we havent seen a full fund-raising report from him, we know he collected a huge sum of money immediately upon entering the race.
Yet Mr. Biden is not an overwhelming favorite: Far less than a majority of Democrats support him, and several other candidates have already cut into his lead.
In June, we have seen two new candidates emerge clearly as strong challengers, as Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg have gained ground in national and state-level polling. In some surveys, they are now nearly even with Bernie Sanders, the runner-up for the 2016 nomination, who has been polling in second place and has amassed a huge reserve of cash from online donors.
Ms. Warren, with her policy-driven campaign, and Mr. Buttigieg, with his appeal to generational change, may have more room to grow than does Mr. Sanders, who is better known among Democrats and more divisive in the party.
Kamala Harris continues to draw considerable interest, though she has not yet built on the energy that greeted her entry into the race.
Other prominent candidates are struggling to register, including Beto ORourke, Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand.
