Editing to add that as good as this news is for Warren, Klobuchar's unusually strong showing in this poll probably had more to do with Warren beating Biden than anything else, since Klobuchar apparently picked up some of what is usually Biden support among Democrats who consider themselves only somewhat liberal, or moderate. If you changed Klobuchar's numbers closer to what they are in most polls, and gave the voters taken from her to Biden, that would make this state poll look very much like the others.

(6,231 posts)Biden because he can beat trump. It's not who you like or who I like. It's who can win the Electoral College and beat trump. It will take a long time to undo the damage done by trump and the repubs. We have to appeal to those who are moderate if we want to win,

(1,736 posts)Biden hasn't received a single vote yet for the nomination, and many of your fellow Democrats see the race differently than Biden supporters do.
Plus, the drop in support from the Democratic base in 2016 probably had more to do with the key losses than losing moderates. In Wisconsin in 2016, Clinton got over 200K less votes than Obama in 2012, Trump got about the same number of votes as Romney. We need a candidate that best excites the Democratic base to win, and it may not be Biden.

(1,736 posts)He has a great deal of successful experience as a chief executive and in Congress. Independent minded but a good consensus builder. I didn't know much about him myself until primary season.
Not enough appreciation is given to the quality of candidates in this primary. Too much horse race and not enough substantive discussion of qualifications, vision, and skillset as related to the issues we face.

(31,240 posts)others. If Biden weren't "exciting" a good portion of the base, he wouldn't be leading in all the polls. The horse race you speak of, qualifications and skillset aren't mutually exclusive. Biden has them all in spades.

(1,736 posts)but opinions on Biden being the best candidate are far from unanimous. There is still a 10-15% share that favor Warren and Sanders, and Buttigieg and Harris are in high single digits. It's early.
I respect the different insights that Democrats bring to the primary season. Biden and Inslee have different kinds of significant experiences in leadership. And yes, Biden is leading in the polls, but not in votes, since no one has voted yet. I don't mind a more muted style - I supported our new Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers in the primary, who was criticized fairly widely for being boring, and Inslee isn't exactly Mr. Excitement when it comes to style. But I am very excited by his public record and his legislative agenda as a candidate for president.
IMO, not all of Biden's experience indicates that he would have the full set of priorities that I value most as a voter. Income inequality, climate change, and the rise in racial tension are my 3 biggest issues, and Inslee's record as a governor and in Congress give me the most confidence in his leadership on these issues. Biden was a prominent presence on climate issues early in his career and I find him to be ok, clearly not best in the field, when it comes to addressing racial issues. I don't think he has the interest or the voting record to challenge and change policies that produced income inequality like Warren does, who for me is a very close second to Inslee.
But, opinions vary.

(31,240 posts)to back up the claim that Biden isn't as "exciting" as some others. For me, personally, Inslee's not a very "exciting" candidate, but I can only speak for ME.

(59,504 posts)In her home state, Klobuchar is stronger than elsewhere and that additional strength comes mostly from people who are more likely to be Biden's supporters elsewhere.
However, Warren's numbers are higher than I have seen to date. Clearly she is becoming the progressive candidate. It is also interesting that she is beating Klobuchar in her home state.
It is also clear the question pushed for responders to make a choice as there are few undecided.
