Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said in an interview that aired Sunday that fellow Democrats are enabling President Trump's willingness to take foreign information on campaign opponents by not impeaching him.
"If there are no consequences, if there is no accountability, if there is no justice, then we will have set the precedent that it is OK to accept help from a foreign government, it is OK to obstruct investigation into interference in our election," O'Rourke said while appearing on CNN's "State of the Union. "
The former Democratic congressman also doubled down on his call for impeachment, saying that it is necessary to send a signal about foreign interference in U.S. elections.
"Impeachment is critically important to get to the facts, discover the truth, to make sure there is accountability for the undermining of our democracy, but also to send the signal that this can never happen again. To send a signal to Russia. To send a signal to Donald Trump. To send a signal to this country that we will save this Democracy," he said.

(12,165 posts)He can and should advocate for impeachment until he passes out from exhaustion.
But it does him no favors or earns him no additional support to imply that democrats are somehow complicit in Trumps crimes or that they enable him. Him suggesting it disgusts me.
And its hogwash and he knows it. His off-the-cuff remarks are often brilliant, but this is an example of a low blow from Beto.

(2,113 posts)We all know the Senate won't convict and he won't be removed but by Pelosi refusing to do anything Trump is making Democrats look weak and pathetic. They don't have to even actually hold a vote but if they open a goddamned inquiry they can put an end to the refusal to cooperate. THAT is the freaking point. I do NOT want them to actually vote to impeach because THAT I DO believe is a waste of time but I can't even tolerate listening to Pelosi when she talks I am so ANGRY that she isn't allowing an INQUIRY to begin.
Beto is RIGHT.
On Edit: I am NOT saying that I think anyone is weak or pathetic. I am saying that by not doing anything they are rewarding Trump's behavior and it is NOT a good look for Democrats. It is also INFURIATING the voters who gave them the House so they could actually DO SOMETHING. It's making voters angry that they are not opening an inquiry. They do NOT have to vote to actually impeach but they MUST open an inquiry.

(2,113 posts)they set a bad precedent going forward and it enables the behavior. It does. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what he said or how he said it. He was absolutely right and spoke the truth. Jake Tapper was bordering on hostile and very passive aggressive in his questioning, in my opinion, and Beto handled him with class and dignity, as always.
