(43,485 posts)I see little to nothing elitist about this organisation whatsoever. They are probably the least 'elitist' group that our candidates will appear before this entire campaign.
Maybe you are confusing this with 5000 USD a plate fundraisers populated with union-busting lawyers, 7 or 8 figure net worth telecom execs, and insurance executives who run lobbyist groups who spent over 100 million dollars to try and stop Obamacare and have vowed to do the same to defeat the public option, etc etc etc.

(11,238 posts)I don't point at people while I'm talking to them. I've pointed my finger UP IN THE AIR while making a point, which isn't at all aggressive. Walking toward someonewhen they can hear you perfectly well from where you are standingleaning forward, then pointing at them has an aggressive connotation. It's rude.
And not visibly reacting to a person's rudeness is good manners.

(8,144 posts)a pointing finger, non-aggressively. You are trying to sell us, in a highly manipulative way, on one, out of context, interpretation that suits your agenda.

(16,973 posts)question. When he was answering, he was specifically answering that it was a brass knuckle fight with Republicans and he was specifically describing how he would go about it. Both Joys hands and Bidens are not an issue, lol.
Obviously those concerned didnt listen to what was being asked and answered.
Joy Reid said yesterday it was a Bernie friendly audience, so that explains all this...concern about Biden.

(11,238 posts)If Joy Reid had gotten up, walked over to Biden and waved her hands while asking the question, I would've thought that odd body language too. But she kept her seat, apparently not feeling the need to enter his personal space to ask it.

(16,973 posts)the panel, not right next to Biden. So he moved closer, so what. The Reverend was right next to him. So was the second female questioner. But that is now common practice in that type setting since the Clinton/Bush debate where Clinton stood and moved toward the questioner to show interest and respect while Bush looked at his watch.
This is a trumped up way to mischaracterize to try and perpetuate what you want to be a yuuge stigma about Biden. Its so obvious. Biden was also answering what a brass knuckle fight with Republicans would be like.

(11,238 posts)People will form their own impressions, quite apart from mine, the more they see of him during this long campaign. If you can maintain your confidence that he's up to the task of being president, fine. But the more time that passes, and the more he does bumbling things like he did in this appearance, the more doubt other people are going to have, I think.

(16,973 posts)You have to convince others that there is something nefarious in a politician using their arms while speaking or moving closer to someone youre speaking with. This kind of program was started by Lucy Flores just days before Biden announced. Now its drug out every time Biden is in public. The drama and overkill is ridiculous and unnecessary.
I didnt see bumbling. It is you who is concerned about maintaining this dialogue to perpetuate a meme about Biden that you must think is devastating to his campaign. Its not.

(2,461 posts)don't have the know how to post the moment, but when biden pats Barber on the thigh while calling him 'boy' - then the barbs from Barber's eyes as he walks past towards Reid - then when he tries to again get handsy with Barber, and Barber pulls back an fiddles with his mic (my physical reading of this is avoidance) then when biden walks past - the Barber eye-roll.
I wonder if biden is too stuck in his status quo to re-invent himself. He has trouble even talking the talk, let alone walking it.

(2,461 posts)I, personally, blame Johnathon Capehart, for his misleading statements/reporting that were amplified by Lewis' remarks - taken out of context. EDIT: 'contextualized' to promote a narrative.
Some feel Lewis did not do enough correcting. It was a very unfortunate chain of events - but again - Lewis' remarks would not have had such an impact were it not for the shoddy journalism that proceeded them.

Why should John Lewis apologize for ANYTHING?

(2,461 posts)Show me one instance where Bernie slams Lewis. One.
Edit: So no, its not the same thing. Not at all. Biden's words 'boy' and 'proud of you' are not at all the same as a crowd reaction. He said those things. They are the language of a colonial past.
Maybe I missed something Bernie said, himself, that also treated Lewis like a 3rd class citizen.

Not doing anything to stop it and not condemning it afterwards is WORSE than actually booing.

(2,461 posts)defending friends, let alone family, that have committed what may be considered offensive, or indeed, in some court of ultimate god-like judgement be considered as definitively evil, may be a noble and good act. To commit the offense is another thing entirely.
I look forward to biden's apology.

(11,990 posts)If Trump were on the same debate stage, I don't see that kind of performance persuading the persuadable in MI/WI/PA to abandon Trump, despite Biden's vaunted "working class appeal." Ten or twenty years ago maybe. But he's turning into a cranky, rambling, barely comprehensible doddering old man. I really worry that if he gets the nomination, we're sunk. I think all the polls showing him strongest against Trump are based on things like name recognition, his association with Obama, and memories of his more youthful self. When people see and hear this guy, I think a lot of that support will evaporate.
