we're about the only First World nation who hasn't elected a female to the top or second spot. But wanting to elect A woman or THIS woman does not equate to ANY woman. I wouldn't vote for someone because of gender. I'd take it into account. I don't see Harris as THE woman.

I remember Ferraro running on the ticket, and how most in the country (left and right) looked at her, not in a bad way, but as the oddity she was. Like she was some freak in a circus side show....a WOMAN on the ticket? Hey, look...she moves & talks like a male person! She's not trying to vacuum and dust everything on the stage!

I also liked that Hillary, and now Harris, wear PANTS! I'm old enough to remember female lawyers being kicked out of courts because the Judge wouldn't allow women to wear pants in his court. (We're talking Hillary & Harris nice business pants suits.)

Barack took America out of the doldrums when Shrub and Darth Cheney were the miserable faces of the country. Now that we have an even bigger worthless (and dangerous!) piece of shit in the White House, maybe it's time to really rock their world with a representative of what's really going on. America has never elected a Democratic President, after an 8 yr run by a Democratic President, since maybe FDR-Truman (and that was because Truman had succeeded to the Presidency upon FDR's death, so Truman was an incumbent).

However, it would behoove Biden not to run for re-election in 2024, leaving it open for Buttigieg. If Biden gets the nomination.

That's the only way that Buttigieg should take that gig. Unless he thinks that Biden looks unhealthy ( ). Just joking. Biden's family has a long lifespan, I think (unless they get cancer).

He’ll be of value to most anyone at the top of the ticket helping to carry industrial midwest and mobilizing military folks to vote. Even if Biden wins the nomination, Pete has a lot to offer. I know it is tempting to prefer a woman in either role but the most important is to win. Even so, as an openly gay person, Pete would still be the first and minority. (arguably lgbt rights are still more restricted than women rights).
The most overlooked quality of Mayor Pete is his appeal to religious left and how he is able to effectively expose religious right as evil.

It might be a mistake to try to pigeonhole Buttigieg based on his sexual orientation (personally I'm hoping we can get back to leaving the president's sex life out of our daily conversations, it's been a little puke-inducing lately).

He's already gained a huge following outside of the LGBTQ community and it just keeps building. If what's happening in real time is any indication, the fact that Pete is gay just doesn't seem to be making any difference.

First of all, again, I apologise for misinterpreting your post.

I live and work everyday in an extremely right-wing community and I see now that I reacted to your post with a defensive instinct that has become ingrained in me from day-to-day exposure to some very malicious and ignorant mindsets.

I mistook your post as saying that Buttigieg's following was made of only the "interesting" LGBTQ community.

It's scary to me to recognize how much being saturated by right-wing ideology every day is warping my perceptions, making me paranoid and defensive, and just plain screwing everything up.

The choice for running mate has two top priorities:

1) To help the nominee lock in a state. Mayor Pete definitely could help with that. Obama won the Hoosier State in 2008 but lost it in 2012.

2) To bolster the nominee's foreign policy bona fides. In the case of Biden, there would be no such need. In the case of most any other potential nominee, such a need would exist. As a Rhodes Scholar with amply experience in military intelligence, Mayor Pete could be a big help.

If Mayor Pete neither were the nominee nor running mate, after this cycle, I suspect that he could run for Indiana AG again and whoop the Republican.
