Buttigieg details plan targeting systemic racism
Buttigieg details plan targeting systemic racism
By Chris Mills Rodrigo - 07/11/19 07:45 AM EDT
White House hopeful Pete Buttigieg on Thursday unveiled new details of a plan aimed at tackling "racist structures and systems, promising to invest in policies to help African Americans.
Dubbed the Douglass Plan, after abolitionist Frederick Douglass, the policy would combat systemic inequalities by reforming health care, education, entrepreneurship, criminal justice and voting rights on a federal level.
Buttigieg first outlined the plan a month ago in an op-ed for the Charleston Chronicle in South Carolina.
Buttigieg's campaign on Thursday said he would increase federal resources for historically black colleges and universities and other minority institutions by $25 billion, eliminate mandatory minimum sentences and set a goal of tripling black entrepreneurs within a decade.

A Police Shooting Gives the Lie to Buttigiegs Campaign Narrative
Black voters are wary of Mayor Pete, for good reasons.
The police force in South Bend is now 6 percent black in a city that is 26 percent black, Maddow noted. Why has that not improved over your two terms as mayor?
Buttigieg responded with contrition. Because I couldnt get it done, Buttigieg confessed. And I could walk you through all of the things that we have done as a community, all of the steps that we took, from bias training to de-escalation, but it didnt save the life of Eric Logan. And when I look into his mothers eyes, I have to face the fact that nothing that I say will bring him back.

constituents probably inspired this plan. I imagine he can walk and chew gum.

Pete is addressing issues in South Bend while devising plans to aid America. He's going to be a HUGE asset as president or as a Secretary of a high-profile portfolio under another Dem's administration in 2020.
