Amy Kolbuchar always impresses me.

Talking on Morning Joe right now, she is her usual reasoned, intelligent, and informed self.

She would make a great president. Sadly, I just don't see her breaking through. She is my tie with Mayor Pete, who also is stuck in the single digits. I think the two of them are the most grounded and smartest in the field.

But less moderate than Biden. She supports the things that I'm interested in, and I like her. Always have.

not because her policies are radical, but because I believe as a President she would carry through and get things done. I don't see Sanders as a change candidate. I imagine him sitting in the Oval Office, the irritable old man that he has been since his 20s, fuming that his agenda is stuck in congress, and that not a million angry tweets can move things forward. A constipated presidency.

The irritable old man in the Oval Office, grumbling and fuming and making speeches about ideology w/o hard solutions that Americans agree with....lol.

I think Klobuchar is someone who would get things done. I don't know for sure, but she strikes me as a hard working, pragmatic, get 'er done kinda person. Rather than making grand speeches and twittering.

doesn't make it as a front runner?

She really has a handle on things, has MORE knowledge about certain things than any of the others, is clear in her speaking, has a bit of a presence.

Yet she's not well known enough or showy enough. She would be far better as a President than almost any other candidate.

Warren started off with the DNA controversy, then 'the troubled campaign' speculation - she showed she could take a punch - so did Amy - but it took longer.

Unlike Warren's 'I have a plan', Klobuchar did not have an over all motif to her candidacy. Something like "I don't do losing - If winning is everything, I'm your nominee" might have paid off, and was/is consistent with her public/private image.

'Whatever it takes' would normally turn off some Democrats, but not this GE.

I forget.

But I worked for lawyers for decades. You'd have to have some pretty atrocious behavior before I'd think it was mean. I think one of the gripes was she asked a staffer on a plane, they were going to a business function, to get her coffee or something?

I don't see anything wrong w/eating with a comb, as long as it was thoroughly cleaned first. Some countries don't use forks at all.

It's either that or use your hands (which some cultures do).

Doesn't bother me at all. Classic beat up. The MSM cast it as a set back, and moved on to covering other campaigns. I am just giving my opinion on why Amy's candidacy has not met expectations. There was also a period where Warren was dismissed as conducting a troubled campaign. There was a period where Beto and then Pete occupied to spotlight to the exclusion of others (excepting Biden and Sanders).

There are three viable candidates on the 'so called' left - Warren, Harris and Sanders. Pete is left/center as well. Personally, I think reducing 'moderate' lane to Biden, is unfortunate. Health - the ACA vs mandatory Medicare will become important (BTW Warren has left open a Medicaid buy in - but raised her hand on abolishing private insurance, which will make a nasty GOP ad).

6. Amy's one of my Senators. I like her. People in Minnesota like her,

and that includes a lot of Republicans.

However, she has virtually no chance of getting the nomination. That's OK with me, because I like having her in the Senate. I like having Bernie Sanders in the Senate, too.

If Amy Klobuchar were a real contender for the Democratic nomination, you would see people here attacking her for being a moderate who isn't a flag-bearer for some progressive goals. She's a pragmatist, and that's one of her greatest strengths. But, nobody gets rewarded for that any more.

Pragmatism isn't regarded highly, any more. Not that it ever was, but it used to be acknowledged as a necessary way to move forward and to govern at times.

No, she doesn't have a chance at the nomination, which makes me sad. I sure would like to see her in the W.H. Maybe she has a chance as VP.

But the Senate is very important, so at least she's there.

I'd like to make this point - One of Elizabeth's most significant plans is to take on corruption in politics - corruption of the electoral process, corruption of the legislature, and corruption of regulatory agencies. There is nothing controversial here - taking on 'special interests' has always been a applause line for Democratic candidate.

Mainstream candidates in this campaign (I dislike the word moderate) could have done worse than taken on her proposals, and found the rhetoric they were comfortable with. Three is a hunger for change as well as turfing Trump. Taking on corruption, root and branch, is something easy to understand and get behind.

. . . although Buttigieg is my hands-down first choice of all the candidates, for his integrity of character; his intellectual depth and breadth;his thoughtful, forward-looking, positive vision and overall breadth of perspective; his evident sanity and emotional balance; his diversity of professional experiences; his magical ability to make sharp criticisms that somehow don't sound nasty or threatening (extremely important for the GE); and, above all, my general sense, based on all of these previously-mentioned qualities, that he has excellent judgment and can make sound decisions. It's pretty much a given that the next president will face a mountain of crises, and the capacity for soundness of judgment is for me THE quality we need most in the next president.

Beyond the particular individual qualities of both Buttigieg and Klobuchar, I'm also convinced that only successful candidate for 2020 will be someone either FROM the midwest, or can truly reach the midwest. This geographical asset is a background shared by both. Both also have a well-developed sense of humor (Amy's is particularly delightful, though - by far the best of all the candidates on that score).

Will check out the video of her Morning Joe interview later. (If you find a link please post!).

for the reasons you have stated. I almost always learn something listening to Pete while at the same time take pleasure in his sheer skill and creativity. As you say he has the 'magical ability' to make the hardest hitting criticisms somehow calm and comforting. I thought Bill was the master of distilling complex controversial subjects into comprehensible commonsense, but Pete does it better still - he leads you to reassuring 'ah ha - yes of course' moments, that can comfort an audience, like a good parent can do with a distressed child.
