Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAmy Klobuchar is on with Rachel.
Sen. Klobuchar is so smart, steady, and grounded. She would make a great president.
I hope she can breakout in the next debate. She deserves to be doing better.

It does not surprise any of us in MN that this is the case.

(28,078 posts)she's very bland (think Minnesota "nice" which is actually Minnesota Passive-Agressive) and does her best to avoid taking a position on anything remotely controversial. Never rocking the boat is why she wins by large margins and yes, those of use who aren't impressed by her still vote for her because she's better than a Republican.
The first time she ran for the Senate she was pretty much shoved down our throats by the state party machinery in violation of state party rules that say the party does not back a candidate until s/he has the won endorsement at the state convention. I was on the State Central Committee at the time and I haven't bothered to try & get back on it since then. The story was the neither the state party nor the DNC wanted another Wellstone. And Amy is no Wellstone, not a Franken, not even a Hubert Humphrey.
If you like the status quo, Amy's your candidate.

(43,049 posts)I am personally not looking for a leftist to replace whatever it is we have now.
I'm not looking for a big deal planner, either-- the country is broken in half and we have to put it back together before we can move forward. I'm not looking for a candidate many will love, simply because that means as many will hate. I'm looking for a candidate with the common sense and grounding to get things back on track while pissing off the fewest.

(43,049 posts)myself, I am not sure I want a raging leftist to replace the raging whatever-it-is we have now.
We saw the rage building up during the Obama years that ended up giving us Trump. We are broken now, and don't need any more of this rage. We need healing, and someone who is grounded and can be trusted to not upset things even more.
Of all the candidates, I suspect Amy might be the best for that healing.

(28,078 posts)and the way the extreme right wing in Minnesota carries on about Klobuchar you'd swear she was to the left of Wellstone.
What may pull blue collar types back into the fold is pushing programs that may help them. Amy might pay lipservice, but UnitedHealth Group's and Medronic's interests will come first.

(39,374 posts)Plus the other side really are unhinged and bipartisanship as a core value stopped making sense a long time ago. A favorite example of mine is when they respond to how Trump has divided the country by saying Obama was the most polarizing President in American history.
