Warren and Sanders could be targets of moderates instead of each other in debate

DETROIT — For the first time since the Democratic presidential campaign began, the race’s two leading liberal candidates — Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren — will appear on the same debate stage here Tuesday night.

But despite signs of tension between the campaigns in recent months, the debate is unlikely to feature a clash between the two for the mantle of the left. Instead, the self-proclaimed longtime friends may be too busy warding off attacks from five more moderate candidates they’ll also be sharing the stage with — all of whom are desperate for a breakout moment.

Those candidates, including Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper, and Montana Governor Steve Bullock, could try to push out of the lower tiers of the large pack by launching themselves at Warren, or — more likely — Sanders.

Their goal is to avoid being cut from September’s debate because of low support in the polls or donations. With little to lose, those candidates could attack the two New Englanders for pushing liberal proposals that, they argue, could hurt the party’s chances in 2020.

2. One thing I like about her is that she uses her WORDS to command attention, not gestures.

One thing I like about her is that she uses her WORDS to command attention, not gestures. Personally, I've always found it to be very annoying whenever a speaker (or candidate) engages in exaggerated hand and arm gesticulations. This is something that has always bothered me... whether it was one of my college professors, or employers... it's a very distracting affectation that really serves no good purpose. When the speaker looks as though he (or she) is conducting an orchestra, or diagramming a sentence structure on an invisible whiteboard, with invisible ink... their message becomes lost or upstaged by his (or her) excessive and exaggerated movements.

I believe that EW strikes the right balance in that regard. She uses her hand gestures to emphasize important points... NOT EACH SYLLABLE of the words she speaks. With this minimalist approach, she presents herself as being in control and with being very familiar with the topic. In this regard, she avoids giving the impression of flailing around... trying to find footing... searching for words, etc.

She knows what she wants to say, and she says it: clearly and concisely. She makes her points with precision. She gets to the heart of the issues that are important to her without beating around the bush.

I like that she isn't one of those old-school candidates who reverts to stump-speech applause lines due to a lack of preparation. EW is definitely prepared. She knows her stuff and can explain her positions without interrupting others, and without rudely invading their personal space.

He can't help himself from waving his arms around. I find it very distracting.

What I have found impressive about Elizabeth Warren is how versatile she is. He calibrates and adjusts she speeches to the audience she is facing, watching how her pitches are registering. But what has sold me is her heart. I've heard her talking about the mentally ill, the disabled, the addicted, and I have no doubt she feels it and cares. The are the people behind the numbers. After all, she said her dream job growing up was to be a special needs teacher.

Hi and salutes back at you NurseJackie

6. Bernie Seems Trump-like on Russia, Immigration and Trade

It is odd that Bernie is always assumed to be "progressive" even when he scape goats immigrants and trade such as when he attacked other candidates for supporting "open borders," which is an attack that Trump has made.
