Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumEveryone is expecting fireworks tomorrow. but tonight could be the most interesting of the debates..
Tomorrow night is probably going to be a hot one, with a lot of people going after VP Biden in their last great hurrah..but tonight..hmmmmm... I don't know why but this could be a very interesting night not only between Warren and Sanders ..(Sanders my have to make some fire tonight or be voted off the island.. ).. but between the rest of the field and the farther left Last debate, Sen Warren had a cake walk.. and everyone else got bloody in the the 2nd debate.. not so sure that tonight will not have its own very special set of fireworks.. good luck to all

(22,877 posts)the right wings commercials being cut at our debates.. I do not think Sen Harris is going to do that again.. But Sen Booker is looking so desperate because the love campaign did not work out.. I see the idea of it.. like hope and change.. I understood the underpinnings..but you have to be consistent in how you are running your campaign.. especially if it is an inspirational campaign.. because that is a hard load to carry.. just my thoughts on that one..

(22,877 posts)and people are so blasted angry at Trump they do not want to hear anything inspirational.. interesting how this will turn.. because if everyone jumps on the anger train.. Trump wins.. I do not envy any of the candidates.. how they thread this needle in this time..

(10,154 posts)substance is a huge problem. Most of the Democratic candidates have a very positive vision and good policies but the media would rather cover a food fight. Hillary had great policy ideas backed by detailed plans and the media completely ignored them to focus on trivia. I expect a repeat this year as well.

(42,862 posts)As long as the "last hurrah" doesn't involved "scorched earth"... then I'm in favor of it.
It's time to put an end to the ridiculous "Candidate's Pageant". I'm looking for more substance than parading the candidates on stage to smile and wave and make a statement or two... give quick responses... and try to land some "zingers" against the other candidates.
The reality of the situation is this: Of these twenty (gah!) candidates, only five or six actually stand a chance of becoming our party's nominee. It's time to focus on those individuals.
Eric Swalwell earned a lot of respect from me when he realized not long ago that he wasn't going to be the nominee... that he didn't have a chance. He withdrew from the campaign and did not indulge any fantasies or vanities. He did it the right way. He accepted reality and ended his campaign with grace and dignity and humility. It's time for at least 15 others to do the same.

(22,877 posts)Usually you see a scrum like this when the seat is open.. but this current resident is so bad that everyone jumped in the pool thinking if there was ever a time to run.. now is ti.. Eric Swalwell will be an important part of any candidates administration, because he is in it for the work getting done..

(25,183 posts)Warren going after Sanders tonight. She'll just let him do his grumpy old man impression, and she will be able to shine merely by contrast with that. Also, if they get into the defense of MFA against those couple of candidates who might want to raise the issue as being bad for the Democratic Party, then I expect Warren's defense of MFA to surpass anything Sanders would say.
I have to wonder about Pete Buttigieg will do. He sort of slogged through on the first debate, coming off the heels of the shooting in South Bend. His only bright spot since that time was the release of his second quarter fundraising figures. Does he tread water this time, looking to make a move later, when there are fewer contenders (especially marginal ones) on the stage, and more time has passed since the shooting? Or does he go after the extremely progressive wing of the party, looking to make himself appear like a better choice for centrists than say, Amy Klobuchar?
