Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoe Biden is so compassionate and firm in this Anderson Cooper interview.
Oh my God. A kind, caring, consoling and intelligent human being. Hes a tad testy over his sons death, and all the deaths were experiencing. He can help us heal. Hes also advocating purpose and stopping the proliferation of these killing machines.

(8,144 posts)from neo-Nazis to white supremacists to anti-immigration populists. You name it. He personally is
not as motivated by ideology as by power and money. He is amoral. He has no real allegiances.
He is a sociopath. He is actually due to the lack of a purely ideologically-driven motive very dangerous.
Biden said whether or not he is a White Nationalist...
If the label is that important to you, go for it.
I think Joe knows who and what Trump is. Biden was the first candidate to make Trumps embrace of our worst angels, of the white supremacists and new-Nazis among us, the central theme of his candidacy when he launched.
Likewise, organized crime does not have an ideology. But it does anything and everything to get and keep power and money. Trump would endorse Hitler and satan himself to feed his hunger.
I honestly do not think it does a thing for Democrats to label his brand of corrupt malignancy. You better bet if it serves him hes for it.

(10,829 posts)Biden was excellent in the interview, direct, firm and absolutely clear about the danger that is all things Trump. It also struck me-- having watched this and a speech Joe delivered to military families--that there's no one better to speak to the issue of personal loss, the terrible weight of it and then how to regain your footing in the aftermath. In fact, that part of the interview almost made me cry. Nearly had Biden weeping, too. Anderson Cooper seemed genuinely moved by those last few minutes. He lost a brother and said quite truthfully, 'you never get over it.' Glad I caught the program.

(10,829 posts)That loss is just beneath the surface for Biden. You can see it in his face, hear it in his voice. And then, the final thought on healing--to find purpose.
I'd say Joe Biden has found his in this fight for the soul of the country, reminding us who we strive to be, even when we stumble. It's a message of hope which has been in short supply over the last three years. We need more of this.
Good one on him!

(297,253 posts)absolutely right.. Joe Biden is going through the worse kind of grief himself.. losing his son Beau. He knows what families and loved ones are going through on his own level.
Not as shocking and horrific as losing them to a hateful-racist killer, with an automatic assault gun, while they were out shopping, of course, but your loved ones are still gone.
He is the epitome of hope who has found his purpose, and encourages others to find theirs in this time of deep, unfathomable despair.
As Biden stated in his launch Vid..

(51,559 posts)He said the pain of the loss never completely go away, just the really bad days get further apart.
He suggested you plot a point on a piece of graph paper where you are at on the "bad day scale" of 1 to 10. At first do it every day. You will see as the months go on, the 10s diminish in number. He cautioned they never go away completely, and you just need to understand that and plan for it. But as you see their frequency diminishing, it will give you hope. And when you catch yourself smiling through tears, you will realize you can do it. That you will be ok.
Then he told a story about Beau, when everyone knew he only had a few months left, including Beau. Beau told him "I'm going to be ok. I want to know, are YOU going to be ok?" (That's when I teared up!!!) The point of that story is your loved ones want you to be ok. They want you to be there for their other loved ones.
Joe also said that it really helps to deal with your grief if you find a PURPOSE in life, and pursue it.
He said a lot of other, often personal stuff, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

But after 3 years of this monster, I just want someone who exhibits kindness and fundamental decency. And Biden is the best of the best IMHO in that department.

He added that at a moment there will come a time when you think of the person you lost, and it takes a long while. But youll get a smile before you get a tear, and thats when you know youre going to make it. And so many people have gone through what Ive been through without the help I had.
Often chided for gaffes, Biden, we see, can be downright profound when discussing loss. Wrapping up, he explained, Sometimes its really dark, but there is hope. And think about what it means for those family members you have left they need you. They need you. And look, folks, thats why I think that it matters the stories of these people, for the public to understand that this is not just a statistic. This is this is who we are, who they are. I mean, its a and it really is about, you know, sort of reweaving that social fabric that holds a society together honesty, decency, hope, leaving nobody behind, giving hate no safe harbor.
