Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMorning Consult poll has Tom Steyer at 6% in early primary states, only 2 points behind Harris
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287229084Anyone have any idea why he's doing so well in those states (IA, NH, SC and NV)?
He isn't even in the top 9 in their national poll:

(7,701 posts)He paid big bucks for the impeachment brand, when it could have been ours for free.
Sigh.

(1,501 posts)I think he spent about $60 million helping Democrats GOTV in 2018 which no other donor did.

(8,144 posts)services and programs are broken, underfunded, non-functional, or endangered. And maybe hes thinking about the large tax raises bold and new will lead to and the deficit, which we must grapple with, as it, like student debt keeps growing.

(36,058 posts)I don't mind that he runs as a Democrat with an impeachment agenda. But even HE knows that this is not a promise he can keep, that it's totally up to Congress.
This is insurgency by a rich guy who promises what rich people promise -- power FOR the people, when it's nothing of the kind.

(36,058 posts)locally, statewide or anywhere, and he's no more fit to govern because he has good intentions than any other billionaires.
Has anyone here posted him in the candidates' section, to give his past record?
Website address?
Contact information?
Policy stances?
Is he listed in Open Secrets?
Ballotpedia?
On The Issues?
I'm just not feelin' it.
No more billionaires without governing experience and a serious campaign presence.
These polls are reactions. Pulse taking. He's buying up opinion to get on a stage.
I'll resent it if he buys his way onstage to pit his opinions against seasoned leadership.
This country's been through enough "learning on the job" richies.

(1,501 posts)I do not have a bias against billionaires. If they are good men trying to do good for others and the nation, I like them. If they support the Democratic Party and are liberal, even better. Both he and his wife are good people who plan to give away their wealth like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Steyer said he was against the Chump tax cuts too. The guy may not check all your boxes but he is legit.

I appreciate his activism, but no, not presidential material.
The last thing we need right now in the White House is another billionaire businessman with no previous government experience.

I admire him for caring so much. Most billionaires do not give a sh*t about anything but themselves.

Give us the full monty on this candidate.
No one's stepped up here. It's not as if this isn't an important forum for Democratic information.

(7,701 posts)We waited too long. And even good money, in a system that favors wealth over compassion, should never, ever: be allowed to out-shout the citizens.

(1,501 posts)Thanks for replying, cwydro. At the very least, his ad buys will drive undecided voters towards voting Democratic and relieve financial pressures on Democratic presidential candidates given Chump's tremendous edge in fundraising revenue.

(10,014 posts)His ads are good and reinforce the Democratic message that will benefit the eventual Democratic nominee.
I left my business to combat climate change, fix our democracy, and hold President Trump accountable, Steyer said in one of his new ads. Last year, we ran the largest youth voter registration in history, helping double turnout and win back the House.
