Beto ORourke will formally rejoin the presidential race on Thursday, resuming a campaign that has been suspended for nearly two weeks with what he promises will be a major address to the nation ...
The Democratic former congressman will outline the path forward for his presidential campaign and for the future of the country. He will then resume traveling the nation as a 2020 White House hopeful, though his advisers have yet to announce where hell go.
ORourke, who became a political star by nearly unseating Republican Sen. Ted Cruz last year, entered the race for the White House with strong buzz and fundraising but has seen both fade.
It is on all of us, individually and through the institutions of the press and Congress, to decide what this country will stand for at this defining moment of truth, ORourke wrote in the op-ed.

(11,088 posts)He would make a great nominee. But he would also make Texas a near guaranteed pick up for Senate, and his chances of winning that primary seem a tad better than the democratic nomination. If he doesnt though, MJ probably has it under control.
On edit: imagine the coattails he ll get if he were the nominee! That man is a helluva campaigner.

(112,532 posts)Cornyn is considered to be more popular in Texas than Ted Cruz so you are incorrect with your assumption that his chances of winning the Senate seat are better than the Democratic presidential nomination.
Beto knew what he was doing and people need to stop playing armchair quarterback with the suggestion that he should withdraw.

(11,088 posts)or financial support needed to keep him in the race. The only primary state he is doing well in is Texas, and that does him no good if he loses every other primary before it. If he drops out of the presidential race and decides to run for Senate, he will already be behind another well funded Democratic candidate in MJ Hegar. So quite frankly, it doesn't actually look like he knows what he's doing if his goal is to be elected to any office in 2020.

(112,532 posts)he still established greater name recognition if he decides to run for governor in 2022. He also sets himself up to run in any future presidential primaries between now and 2040.
