Kudos to Kamala Harris for standing up to Donald Trump's attacks on Baltimore:

Sen. Kamala Harris said in an Associated Press interview published Tuesday that Donald Trumps attacks on Baltimore and U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings were disrespectful, telling the news organization that the Republican does not understand the significance of the words of the president of the United States.
The Democratic senator from California and 2020 presidential hopeful was asked about her decision to set up her campaign headquarters in Baltimore and the presidents comments on Twitter calling the city a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.
A number of political leaders denounced Trumps comments as racist, and Harris said in July that Trumps long list of statements and tweets and behaviors ... make it very clear that he possesses hate and that he is divisive and that he is a racist.
Trumps comments followed his calls for four congresswomen of color to go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came," despite the fact that three of the women were born in the United States.
Of course, I wonder Bernie Sanders would say given what Bernie has said about Baltimore. First, trade, then immigration, then Russia, and now Baltimore.

Baltimore Sun: Bernie Sanders likens West Baltimore to 'Third World' country
The independent senator, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, walked the streets of Sandtown-Winchester for about 20 minutes, joined by community leaders and a swarm of cameras that mostly blocked his view of boarded rowhomes and crumbling marble steps. A handful of residents joined the spectacle, and occasionally broke out in chants of Gray's name.
The scene provided dramatic visuals of the economic inequality Sanders has made the center of his campaign, offering a new backdrop from which to argue for a higher minimum wage, tuition-free public college and tougher federal regulations of the nation's banking sector.
"Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you're in a wealthy nation," Sanders told reporters later at the Freddie Gray Empowerment Center in Bolton Hill. "You would think that you were in a Third World country."

"But today what we're talking about is a community in which half of the people don't have jobs," he said. "We're talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable."

(11,989 posts)from what Trump was doing.
Sanders = serious discussion of Baltimore's problems, in the context of what the country needs to do to solve them.
Trump = a gratuitous slam on a political opponent, with a side dish of racism.

(11,989 posts)One was talking about how Baltmore has problems that he wants to see fixed via allocation of resources that no longer always favors the wealthy.
The other was talking about how Baltmore has problems because it has incompetent leadership and, implied, because it is filled with black people and represented by black people.
You're going to tell me these two things are the same??
And now you're bringing China and Russia and immigration into it. That's not what we were talking about, but even to the extent that we may have this candidate or that one who partially agrees with some aspect of something Trump has done, I reject extending that to an implied premise that ANY of our candidates are Trump-like.
