In Rehoboth Beach, Joe Biden gets emotional: 'It's good to be home'

From Delaware Online this morning:

https://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/politics/joe-biden/2019/08/17/joe-biden-2020-candidate-returns-delaware-rehoboth-beach-fundraiser/2028265001/

Former Vice President Joe Biden returned home to Delaware on Friday night for a Rehoboth Beach fundraiser, where he became emotional about his friends' support for his run for president.

“Having your friends and neighbors come out and support you is the highest compliment anyone in public life can have," Biden said. "I really mean it.”

-snip-

When speaking to the crowd, Jill Biden acknowledged “so many old friends” in attendance. She then asked the audience to imagine that it’s the summer of 2021.

“You’re sipping your coffee and you pick up the morning paper. The headline isn’t some late night tweetstorm,” she said. “Instead, it’s about a story about children who will benefit from universal pre-K. You read about the progress that’s being made in the Paris agreement, and how the United States is once again leading the world coalition to stop and reverse climate change.”

“You turn on the television,” she continued, “and the anchors are talking about how we’re going to build on the Affordable Care Act or they’re excited that someone is finally standing up to the NRA. And when they cut to the president of the United States, you don’t turn the channel.”

-snip-

The former vice president became choked up when talking about his home state, particularly the support his family received when son Beau Biden died from brain cancer in 2015.

“Jill warns me to not mention about Beau, not that we don’t adore him, but because I still have a little trouble,” Biden said. “Especially when I’m with people who know him.”

-snip-

Now, there was a momentary gaffe during the speech, when Biden was talking about his speech last Wednesday in Burlington, Iowa. He said "Burlington, Vermont" first, then immediately corrected himself.

That one-word gaffe, though immediately corrected, has been the headline for other news stories referring to this fundraiser.

Never mind that Biden, living on the east coast, has probably referred to Burlington, Vermont hundreds of times more often than he's referred to Burlington, Iowa, and that's the most likely explanation for this trivial slip of the tongue.

Very few in the media care about the actual event when they can find one single word to fit what's becoming their favorite narrative about Biden.

They are wonderful people who, deep down, really just want to go home. They are truly good people but I don't think they want the presidency so much, they just ache to serve their country because of daily horrors of Trump.

But I think they ache, too, for home and the people they have known and loved so much.

If he is our candidate I will vote for him and work for his campaign any way I can. At present he is not my choice for candidate but I still love him and his family for the good people they are.

When his son died, Joe said he most wanted(after done with VP duties) to stay home and help raise his Grandchildren.

I still think this is what he wants more then anything. He'd make a good president but I'd rather see him happy.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
