'I Believe in Capitalism': Kamala Harris Courts Big Donors in the Hamptons
(I was invited but didn't go)
Bloomberg
Teslas and Maseratis lined the street as Kamala Harris greeted guests sipping drinks from plastic cups with her name on them and eating cinnamon sugar donuts from Dreesens at a fund-raiser hosted by movie executive Jamie Patricof and his wife Kelly as the summer of Democratic fund-raisers rolled on in East Hampton.
...SNIP...
Harris has positioned herself as a moderate candidate in the Democratic spectrum that can appeal both to the wealthy and the working class, attendees said. Even in the backyards of the millionaires, Harriss message remained the same as in rural Iowa. She continued to push her 3 A.M. agenda, by which she means the issues that keep middle-class Americans up at night.
I believe in capitalism, but capitalism is not working for most people, Harris said on the patio steps of the Patricof house, looking out at a peach orchard among flower and herb beds. She said she recognized people whove become successful by working hard and following rules, but that the middle class needs help.
Harris again tried to clarify her stance on health care, a topic that tripped her up in the early Democratic debates. I have not been comfortable with Bernies plan, she said of Sanders Medicare for All proposal, and explained how a Harris administration would leave room for private insurance.

(67,782 posts)1. Not my candidate, but good for her. To win ANY candidate needs the bugaboo "big donors"...
We all have to remember, NO individual donor can give more than $2800 per year per campaign (those who max out during the primary can also give $2800 for the general election)
The concept of a "big donor" is a misnomer and has an artificially negative connotation.

A *well regulated* market is the best economic system.

(47,486 posts)8. Good for her
Most Americans do like the fruits of capitalism.
Many remember the drab life of USSR and Eastern Europe. Many remember the desperate attempts of East Germans to jump over the Berlin Wall.
Most Americans do not hate the rich; they want to be rich.
