Joe Riley, Charleston's mayor from 1975 to 2016: Biden would return respect to the Oval Office

https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/opinion/2019/08/18/opinion-biden-would-return-respect-value-oval-office/2008637001/

I will never forget the presence of then-Vice President Joe Biden, as my heartbroken city came together with unity and peace following the hate-filled killings at the Mother Emanuel AME Church. Biden was impressed by Charleston’s strength, but I was impressed by his.

Just one month prior, he had lost his oldest son Beau. But he still made the trip to Charleston, and with ease and grace, and he knew exactly what to say.

Joe Biden embodies the kind of leadership our country so desperately needs today. The words he spoke at a dark time in our city, are the words Americans need to hear from our president in a time of despair and tragedy.

With the current occupant of the White House proving time and time again that he is unfit to serve the American people, we long for a president to lead with character and empathy.

History will not look kindly on the past three years, but the soul of the nation can be saved with new leadership. We need a president who embodies the compassion and humanity we once took for granted. Former Vice President Joe Biden’s character will restore dignity to the Oval Office and to our country as a whole.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If he lived further from DC than Wilmington, Delaware, he probably wouldn't have taken his seat in the Senate. Still, it took a long talk with Mike Mansfield to convince him to take the oath of office.

That says everything right there, a role for which Joe Biden is perfectly suited. In addition, he comes with the experience, knowledge and skill set the next president will sorely need to repair, restore and move the country forward.

History will not look kindly on the past three years, but the soul of the nation can be saved with new leadership.

Yes it can. And Joe Biden has included this implicit goal in his mission statement.
