Bernie Sanders Says VP Pick Will Be a Woman...Hours After Saying People Shouldn't Consider Gender

by Tommy Christopher | Feb 20th, 2019, 3:45 pm

Independent Vermont Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says he’d like to select a woman who is younger than he is as his running mate, just hours after he said voters should not consider race, age, or gender in a presidential candidate.

Sanders sat for a lengthy interview with The Young Turks‘ Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian on Tuesday, hours after announcing his candidacy for president. The subject of what Sanders often refers to as “identity politics” came up in a few surprising ways.

Kasparian told Sanders that “what concerns me is some of what we saw during the 2016 election,” and asked “were their specific lessons that you learned during that election that you’re going to really look out for moving forward, and what are those lessons?”

“Yes, yes, we have been criticized, correctly so, for running a campaign that was too white and too male-oriented, and that is going to change,” Sanders said. “We are going to have a very very diverse campaign staff, and we’re going to do a better job of reaching out to every community in this country.”

In case that's it, here's another example that might make the logic clearer.

"People shouldn't drink and drive" and "people do drink and drive" are not contradictory. (They're obviously both true.)

And an awareness of that fact would mean that sobriety check points could still be a good idea, even though they are addressing a situation that "shouldn't" exist.

Does that clear it up?

Legal requirements for presidential candidates have remained the same since the year Washington accepted the presidency. As directed by the Constitution, a presidential candidate must be a natural born citizen of the United States, a resident for 14 years, and 35 years of age or older.

Funny how BS said one thing to the locals via Vermont Public Radio:

We have got to look at candidates, you know, not by the color of their skin, not by their sexual orientation or their gender and not by their age

and the exact opposite to the "progressive" audience that Republican multi-millionaire Buddy Roemer's business partner (aka Cenk) draws on Youtube:

I think we would look for somebody who is maybe not of the same gender that I am, and maybe somebody might be a couple of years younger than me

Is that what they mean by micro-targeting?

15. Sanders said he was going to join the Democratic party.

Then he didn't. He said he was going to release his tax returns. Then he didn't.

I don't understand why anyone would believe anything he says at this point.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Balancing the ticket is nothing new. We see it with race, religion, region, why not gender?

when he has railed many times against "identity politics".. at least stick to your principles.. seems he wants it both ways.

It should be noted that Sanders movement is identity politics also, just from the white side.

And there's nothing I've seen sofar (on social media, IRL, etc) that seems to be different in tone from his most vocal supporters, who are often vicious in their critique of Dems, and appear to be going after Kamala (who is the early favorite in this field) in a similar way they went after Hillary.

85. Just have to say, if the headline says "Sanders says", and there's no quote
Fri Feb 22, 2019, 02:06 AM
Feb 2019

where he actually says that, the writer and the poster are on my shit list. Or at least my "I'm disappointed in you" list. Same goes for any article about any candidate...I was as fed up as I could get over that shit years ago.

If an article says someone said something and then it's not really what was said, that's just the kind of trash journalism that does us no good. Coming back with "well that's what he must have meant" or "it's implied by a certain reading of the words" doesn't cut it.
