Andrew Gillum on Bill Maher,

I posted this in the Primary forum with the hope that Gillum runs for president. How articulate, how sharp. Bill Maher asked him a leading question about how Democrats need to distance themselves from Socialism. He gave a terrific answer about not fearing a label but attacking it by putting forth a platform that appeals to the working class, by talking about the issues instead of a word.

If they had counted all of the votes in Florida Gillum would have won. He is certainly someone to keep an eye on.

He also has something that can't be taught, charisma.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

46% of the electorate said he was too liberal for the state. Apply that elsewhere upon national scrutiny and we lose states that would be unimaginable to lose. The Tallahassee FBI situation is nothing but it doesn't mean nothing. Incredible gift to the GOP.

Sorry, I like Gillum but that doesn't mean anything. I like the Miami Dolphins but wager against them all the time. I'm still in disbelief we nominated Gillum here in Florida, given that obvious FBI problem and how a socialist tag would fare with South Florida Cubans. It was like our most progressive types had their nose in the clouds during the primary and were happily oblivious to all things relevant.

Gillum was rejected by 46% as too liberal. Abrams was rejected by 41% as too liberal in Georgia. That is how they should be viewed. Those are unheard of numbers. Anything above 35% is rare.

If we risk the same thing in the presidential race we will lose and we won't have a valid complaint.

...each narrowly lost running statewide in Florida on the same ballot. It’s difficult to conclude from the results that being more moderate or less moderate is the path to victory.

People who saw Andrew Gillum as too Liberal in that poll would have voted for Ron DeSantis against Charlie Crist, Gwen Graham, Alex Sink, and probably even Adam Putnam. They voted for Rick Scott against Bill Nelson, a Centrist Democrat. They are going to vote Republicans against Democrats in general elections no matter what, however Liberal or Moderate the Democrat is.

The real path to victory is ending voter suppression and improving Democratic-leaning turnout.

I noticed people get mad when some Democrats are criticized from the Left. But, some are criticizing Democrats from the Right, making arguments for Conservative Republicans against Democrats who are not even “Democratic Socialists.” That is their right, but I am making sure to be fair by admitting Joe Biden (a Centrist if not Center-Right by Legislation he pushed in the Senate) and Bernie Sanders (a Social Democrat) can both beat Trump. Unless things we cannot predict change, I think both can!

In a political context, I fell in love with Andrew Gillum. I believe he is a Progressive on the issues, and he even has the stage presence to take on Donald Trump and other Right-Wing politicians. I think he won his debates against Ron DeSantis in substance and style. Gillum made him look like a boy who was on the debate stage only because his parents made him.

It would feel like a waste for his political career to be over. If he can’t be nominated for President or Vice-President, I would like to see him as Secretary of State if he is interested in International Relations.

primary today, I would vote for:
