How Bernie Sanders would address climate change

Politico

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders on Thursday released his plan to fight climate change, as he seeks to position himself as the most aggressive candidate for the Democratic nomination on the issue.

Sanders pledged to declare climate change a national emergency and called for $16.3 trillion over a decade to transition the U.S. to 100 percent renewable electricity and phase out the use of traditional gasoline-powered engines.

The “Green New Deal” aims to fully decarbonize the U.S. economy by 2050 to hit a target climate scientists have said is necessary to avoid the worst effects of global warming.

Like other Democratic climate plans, much of Sanders’s proposal would require Congressional action to pass — something that’s unlikely given its scale. But the plan stands out for its aggressiveness in confronting climate change, as well as its cost and difficulty to enact.

I assume he'll pay for this with the money he won't get Congress to give him for health care?

Bazinga!

How many "green new deals" are out there now? How many are REAL plans and how many are wish lists?

BTW, this "plan" does not say HOW he would address climate change, but what he would like to address, including lots of things that have nothing to do with climate change.

MFA and Climate change. My suggestion is Congress stop paying for endless wars in the Middle East. With the damage fossil fuels are doing and they are going to be running out sooner or later so why not do it now instead of getting caught without our pants down later. Instead of adding billions in subsidies to the ACA as Biden wants, and by the way, no one ever asks how he's going to get the money from Congress, might as well pour that into Medicare and saving the planet.

money from Congress for the deadliest crisis that humanity is facing? Pete's plan? Warren's plan, Biden's plan? If congress won't fund Bernie's plan for climate change and certainly not MFA what makes you think they will fund your candidate's climate plan and throw billions more into subsidies "fixing" Obamacare for the Republicans to kill it again? You just posted a very damning statement on Congress with your one little small sentence. Maybe you're right. We are just wasting time with all this bullshit so I presume it doesn't matter, does it?

... is not worthy of our consideration. There is no bigger issue facing mankind, and we are at the crossroads right now.

Yeah, it's going to be an hugely expensive project, but the cost of doing nothing... doesn't bear thinking about. Even the reptiles of Wall Street need a liveable planet. (with apologies to actual reptiles, also in need of a liveable planet)

I can't see any potential Republican primary challenger to Donald Trump even mentioning this, or he'll lose his base immediately, so it's gonna be up to Dems to think big and fix the mess, as usual.

Tom Steyer is a good guy though, who has definitely got his ducks in a row. Rare to see a billionaire with a conscience. I hope the eventual nominee will bring him and Jay Inslee aboard their administration, to help manage this massive project.
