BERN NOTICE: Biden's Response To Bernie's Green New Deal

https://bernie.substack.com

Today, Bernie Sanders rolled out what experts and media are calling the most comprehensive, far-reaching and progressive climate plan of any candidate in the race. In response, Joe Biden’s campaign supported the successful effort to block a climate-focused Democratic presidential debate.

Bernie’s plan — which you can read here — was widely praised, and was covered in The New York Times, Buzzfeed, Politico, The Hill, USA Today and CNN. Acclaimed climate author and activist Naomi Klein wrote that Bernie’s plan “has massively moved the goal posts. This is what it means to treat the climate crisis like a true emergency and build an economy that cares for people and Earth at the same time. “

At the very moment Bernie’s plan was gaining big praise, Biden’s top campaign aide “urged the DNC on Thursday to vote down a climate debate, saying it would be ‘dangerous territory in the middle of a Democratic primary process,” according to The Huffington Post. The proposal for a climate-focused presidential debate was then blocked.

The Biden' campaign’s move follows Reuters previously reporting that Biden is focused on “carving out a middle ground approach” on climate change, despite scientists dire warnings that we need an aggressive Green New Deal. One of Biden’s climate policy advisers “occupied a lucrative seat on the board of the Texas-based liquified natural gas company Cheniere Energy,” reported Sludge, a campaign finance-focused investigative journalism outlet.

She was there as a member of the committee.

They voted on a proposal to hold a single topic debate on climate change instead of the televided candidate forums that are already planned. The debate measure was defeated 17-3.

Why on earth is Sirota claiming that a meeting scheduled months ago is somehow part of a plan to step on the alleged momentum of the big BS announcement?

Why trust anyone who sends out a talking points memo that relies on the assumption that it’s readers are mis- or ill-informed enough to simply accept and repeat such a distortion?

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/03/bernie-sanderss-new-speechwriter-has-controversial-past/585547/

From a Bogus Website to Bernie Sanders's Inner Circle

Subheadline: David Sirota got fired from a Philly campaign 20 years ago for a racially charged “dirty trick” before he first went to work for the progressive from Vermont.

Bernie Sanders first hired his new speechwriter, David Sirota, 20 years ago, shortly after Sirota was fired from a mayoral campaign for his connection to a bogus website that promoted a racially charged quotation, taken out of context, of a black opponent.

In 1999, in Philadelphia, there was a crowded Democratic primary for mayor. Three of the candidates were African American: John White, Dwight Evans, and John Street, all of them friends going back years. But the race got intense early, and David Sirota, then working as the deputy campaign manager for Evans, was part of an effort to cut down White’s support: creating a bogus website, purporting to be the official home page of the White campaign, and using it to promote a racially charged quotation, deliberately taken out of context.

The ruse was soon discovered. Evans, who is now a Democratic member of Congress, fired Sirota. He called Sirota “overzealous” at the time. “I do not want this race to be about race,” Evans said in 1999, calling the site in question an example of “dirty tricks.” The website took a comment that White had made in a broader interview with a Spanish-language weekly, Al Día, and presented the line as if it were an anti-white slogan: “The black and the brown, if we unite, we’re going to control this city.” Local reporters in Philadelphia received emails directing them to the site as though it were part of John White’s campaign.

White, according to news reports at the time, was speaking about the increased political clout African Americans and Latinos could have if they worked together as a coalition. That was February. By the fall, Sirota was hired as the press secretary for Bernie Sanders, then in the House. He was hired by Sanders’s then–chief of staff, Jeff Weaver, who went on to manage Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign and remains a senior adviser to the 2020 campaign.
