Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumCan you tell me what Kamala Harris' candidacy is about? (Q. for Harris supporters)
HARRIS SUPPORTERS and ADVOCATES ONLY
This is an honest question. If you asked me to put the candidacies of Bernie, Elizabeth, Joe and Pete into a paragrahs, what is distinctive: their beliefs, priorities and, signature policies, I could do so in a few words.
For example, Elizabeth Warren is a Teddy Roosevelt progressive. Her number 1 priority is ending corruption - In TR's words "to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day". Elizabeth believes that people and corporations must play by the rules (her Republican background) and those rules must be fair, compassionate, and enforced against all (particularly the powerful). Her signature policy, is the wealth tax which would fund assistance for opportunity, particularly for women - federally funded childcare, pre-k, health care, tuition free public college and student loan relief. It is her story - single mothers from modest backgrounds can reach for the stars.
What has registered for me so far about Kamala's campaign is her 3am agenda (to give everyday people peace of mind), and the LIFT tax proposal.
How would you sum up Senator Harris' campaign?

(7,277 posts)- the central theme behind his universe of policies. I am having difficulty discerning what is distinctive about Harris'. I'm sure you could sum up Bernie, or Joe in a few words without going to their campaign web pages.

(38,958 posts)as I really haven't had the interest. If one of them turns up as the nominee they will get my vote.
I picked Yang after hearing him on C-Span in the Fall of 2018 from the Brooklyn Book Festival when he was on a panel talking about the changing of the economy and work.
I supported Bernie in the last go around until the convention and voted for HRC. I have always liked Warren since I first heard of her before in the days prior to the Consumer Protection Bureau was around. I would sum up their campaigns as it's time to level the economic playing field for the middle and lower classes which I also believe to be the underlying tenet of the Yang campaign.

(85,998 posts)...but you'd be better off asking supporters what the candidacy means to them.
I'll dish on that sometime in the future, but what were all of those posts folks here took time to share, her almost every utterance in tweets, pressers, and appearances. What were those about, anyway?
What, indeed...

(7,277 posts)Campaigns benefit a central central theme. Joes would be normalcy, decency, and the soul of America. Obama - Hope and Change. Edwards - Two America. Having distanced himself from the Clinton Administration, Al Gore struggled.

Bernies sees the world as a class struggle between the billionaires, the oligarchs, the top 1% and the rest. Obscene poverty is an indictment of obscene wealth. The enemies of progess should be named and defeated by political revolution. Sanders sees the most practical way to protect ordinary people from the depredations of the ruling class is to establish an invioable 21st Century Bill of Economic Rights - "the right to quality health care, the right to as much education as one needs to succeed in our society, the right to a good job that pays a living wage, the right to affordable housing, the right to a secure retirement, and the right to live in a clean environment".

(7,277 posts)A central theme benefits a candidacy. If I had to put Kamala's campaign into a few words it would be unity, peace of mind and a fearless professional who will prosecute the case against the nations wrong turn represented by Trump.

I can sum it up from my view.

(210 posts)Original Medicare will remain along with Medigap and Medicare Advantage private plans. Babies will be born into the plan from the start, and those without insurance can also enroll immediately. In addition, her plan would not increase middle class taxes as much as Bernie's would. Oh, and out of pocket expenses would be capped at $200 per year. All this would be partially paid for by a tax on Wall Street transactions.
Here is a link to her plan description:
