I'd word it this way:
Half our people live paycheck to paycheck because the top 1% captured 45% of new income.
While the average income for all people doubled over 40 years, in reality working people only saw their hourly wages grow by $2.

I'm also not a Sanders fan, but I have to admit that he has his strengths.
