A significant majority of Democratic voters are more likely to back a 2020 primary candidate who supports Medicare for All than building on the Affordable Care Act, a new poll found
___ According the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll out Wednesday, 65 percent of Democratic primary voters would be more likely to support a candidate who wants to institute a single-payer health care system like Medicare for All; 13 percent said theyd be less likely to back a candidate based on that support.
Democrats are increasingly more inclined to back a 2020 candidate who supports Medicare for All versus revamping Obamacare, said Tyler Sinclair, Morning Consults vice president. In January, 57 percent of Democrats said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who backs a Medicare for All health system over expanding the Affordable Care Act. That number has now risen to 65 percent.
Overall, 53 percent of voters support Medicare for All, though fewer 45 percent say a candidates support for Medicare for All would make them more likely to vote for that candidate in a general election over one who would prioritize improving on Obamacare. The survey suggests a level of public support for single-payer health care that could take some sting out of Republicans plans to make Medicare for All a four-letter word they can wield against Democrats up and down the ballot in 2020.

(14,577 posts)But yeah, we need to find a way to use OUR tax dollars that WE pay into OUR government that is supposedly a government of, by and for the people, to fund stuff that actually materially helps us.
Repeal of 2017 tax cut = good policy
Raising payroll, corporate, capital gains and other taxes = good policy
Medicare for All = good policy
Expanded Social Security = good policy
Green New Deal = good policy
Spending $733 billion on wars and weapons of destruction = bad policy
Having 200,000+ troops in nearly 170 countries = bad policy
Gutting EPA = really bad policy
Gutting financial regulations = really bad policy

(58,785 posts)pollings on the subject, some of which have reported a large majority want to build quickly and smoothly on the ACA rather than starting over from scratch, with a several-year delay to full implementation.
Remember, the ACA has been part of most insured Americans' lives now for some years. Preexisting conditions are all covered. Annual and lifetime limits on care are gone. Physical exams and preventive labs are 100% covered every year, no deductibles applying. Americans can now move or change jobs without being downright scared they might lose coverage, and all have the right to see their medical records and access them on line. And a lot more.
So take this with a grain of salt. My guess is most of what support there really is could vanish like mist after further education on the subject. People want dental coverage, yes, but they need it now; several years to be implemented is several years too long.

(54,770 posts)and actual coverage that will apply, I'll pay attention. Right now, it's generalities because the proposals lack details and impact to individuals.

(32,778 posts)Our health and the care of it should take a higher priority than most give to it. It should be part of ones overall monthly budget, but I doubt thats the case.
