Joe Biden says he'd prefer a running mate who is 'of color and/or a different gender'

Former vice president Joe Biden has been leading the Democratic field in most polls since he entered the race, but even he acknowledges that he’s a long way from winning the nomination. If he does, Biden said it would be ideal for his ticket to reflect the diversity of the American population.

The presidential hopeful told a small group of black journalists Tuesday that if he wins the nomination, he’d prefer that his vice presidential candidate not be a white male.

Asked by Washington Post reporter Vanessa Williams whether it would be important to him to select a running mate who reflects diversity, Biden replied: “Whomever I pick, preferably it will be someone who was of color and/or a different gender, but I’m not making that commitment until I know that the person I’m dealing with I can completely and thoroughly trust as authentic and on the same page [as me].”

Biden spoke at length about Barack Obama’s choice of him as his running mate because, he said, Obama knew that they would usually be on the same page. He said that that consideration was more important to Obama than Biden’s ability to win over voters who might be slow to back a black man with an uncommon name.

Harris sticks to attacking Trump and not fellow Democratic candidates, I can see Joe Biden looking past the busing attack, just as Barack Obama was able to get past the "clean and articulate" thing. But with the latter, Biden was just super clumsy at trying to say something nice about Obama, and Harris all but called Biden a racist.

I saw where Stacy Abrams is not going to run for the Senate from Georgia, I figure she's thinking that she can be Joe Biden's VP. That would be a solid pick.

Zero animosity there, and she puts states into play at a level that Harris does not quite do, IMHO

GA, FL, NC

plus no muddled health care plan to walk back, no executive order on guns to walk back

I may be wrong, but now with Abrams actively saying she wants the VP (after being so coy on all her plans) and definitively ruling out a GA Senate run, I feel more confident than ever
