I can't imagine trying to campaign in dress shoes, anything with a heel would be horrible!

Just like enclosed flip-flops to me. Has that changed in the decades since I've paid them any mind and since they've reemerged as a "thing?" My own unstable ankles cringe just looking at the photos...

That said, Kudos to her for wearing casual athletic shoes. More should, rather than the "foot-destroying fashion traps" society pressures women to wear.
