Many people also are annoyed by crying babies
Indeed. There are many people who are annoyed by crying babies. I'm included in that group as well. Fortunately for me, I don't need to demonstrate to others that I have the temperament and demeanor to be the Leader of the Free World.

I just think the whole "crying baby" thing is very revealing when it comes to letting voters know how a candidate will react to something that may be annoying, or unplanned, or distracting. Does he (or she) show empathy and compassion for the parent... who knows full well that their crying infant is a distraction... the parent doesn't need to be told... the parent doesn't need to be called-out or publicly humiliated. What good purpose does that serve?

Voters look for things like that and they cue-in on whether a candidate reveals that he (or she) is short-tempered and easily irritated. It lets voters know in advance if a candidate can adapt, make changes, and shift-gears in a way that's respectful to everyone. It's a clue to voters about how that candidate would react if he (or she) were to be the party's nominee. They imagine him (or her) in the Oval Office and try to decide if that's they type of person they'd be proud to call Mister or Madam President.

All I'm trying to say is that the winning candidate, the one who is chosen as our party's nominee, will be someone who has demonstrated that he (or she) is capable of showing kindness and empathy and patience... and someone who is flexible and understanding.

That's one of the things that I look for. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
If I were to vote in a presidential

and if I were I'd keep my annoyance to myself. In fact, I almost always keep my annoyance to myself because babies cry and there's not much that can be done about it. If I do get annoyed it's because a parent doesn't take the crying baby out of the concert hall, church, etc., where it's annoying people. But someone who's running for president will just have to suck it up.

Since I do not and actually hope Sanders will be too minor a presence to disrupt the convention (should whatever delegates he manages to have once again be inclined of course), I'm perfectly fine with people discussing his crankiness and boorishness. A lot.

The person I support for POTUS will be someone who knows how to act in public... who knows how to treat people with kindness and understanding and sympathy... who understands that when dealing with some of life's unexpected and irritating moments, the BEST thing you can do is smile and accept it with grace and humility. I want a POTUS who has the demeanor and temperament to NOT lose his (or her) temper and wag his (or her) finger at someone.

These things are important.

I pretty much agree with his politics for the most part, but he rubs me the wrong way. He is arrogant and intolerant in a number of ways.

I related a story about him years ago and got attacked. Nobody believed me, and even I voted for Bernie in the last Dem primary. Right after I graduated from college I moved to Burlington, VT for a little less than a year and waitressed on Church Street. He and some of colleagues came into my restaurant for lunch and he paid the bill.

He left me a measly 10% tip and barely acknowledged my existence during the entire meal. And no, there was no problem with the service. I was attentive, the food came out on time, I was polite, etc.

He was just a cheapskate and for all he talks about people needing a living wage, apparently he didn't seem to think that young women were part of that group that he is so passionate about fighting for. I think he is a hypocrite. I really have a lot of issues with him.

And here is his wife, Jane O'Meara: Early in her career, Sanders worked in the Juvenile Division of the Burlington Police Department, and then as a community organizer with the King Street Area Youth Center, and for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), a job that helped her pay off her student loans.[1]

From 1981 to 1991, Sanders served as founding Director of the Mayor's Youth Office and Department Head in the City of Burlington. She was also active in K-12 education, elected as a School Board Commissioner, and was a founding member of the Women's Council & the Film Commission. In 1991, her husband, Bernie Sanders, was elected to the U.S. Congress. From 1991 to 1995, she worked in his office on a volunteer basis

... she's always proved to be quite capable. Fact of the matter is this: Women are not chattel to do as they are told... to be ordered about... to be baby-making-machines. It reveals much about ANYONE who would suggest (whether cleverly veiled, or directly) that a woman's reproductive decisions make her less worthy or less qualified. And do we know that it's a conscious decision and not related to anything medical?

All I'm trying to say is: "who the fuck cares??" and if someone does care (or pretends to care) my question then would be "why??" I think it's clear to everyone that such concerns reflect poorly upon that person... not on Senator Harris.

I'm sure the parent already felt self-conscious enough... the attention had already been focused on the parent and the baby... but Biden saw an opportunity to smile at life's unexpected (and unavoidable) moments... and to send a positive message.

I must say, I'm so SICK AND TIRED of self-absorbed politicians to take themselves too fucking seriously, who are quick to anger... it's just not the type of demeanor and temperament that I can support... no matter who he (or she) is.

All I'm saying is it doesn't serve any good purpose for any politician to do or say things that are intended to call-out or humiliate people. It's just rude.

If I were to vote in a presidential

We have a President who without a doubt hates children and has implemented a policy of separation and putting them in cages. Some have died.

He’s a caring man who loves the our country and will embrace our allies and kick ass on foreign policy. I want an experienced sane person. No more rookies. Any of our candidates are better by many miles.

I don’t like it when the Sanders supporters deride Joe but that is there choice.

Telling a baby to clam it vs. killing them in cages. Easy choice for a normal human.

Thu Sep 5, 2019, 10:36 AM

Should they not be allowed to be part of the political process? Some babies rely on mom for sustenance. Should those mothers not be allowed to be part of the process?

Who else shouldn't be allowed? People in wheelchairs? Sometimes, they create a stir if they are trying to find a place where they can see? The developmentally disabled? Sometimes they make noise.

How about those with allergies? I sneeze a lot when I'm around people who wear perfume. Should I be blackballed from these events? I'm a very loud sneezer.

I volunteered at several HRC rallies in 2016. They were put together with only a few days' notice.

Regardless, some parents cannot afford child care, even for one hour. Why do you think they should be deprived of participating in the process? Perhaps this parent really wanted to see and hear Sen. Sanders. Why is that wrong?

For heaven's sake, Bernie should be able to handle a little noise.

Growing up in the 40's, 50's and 60's it was a show of respect to immediately leave a gathering if our babies became discontent. This was not only polite to those at the gathering it was most likely a need for the infant to be consoled. I suppose the memo has been lost over the years yet for most of us whether in church, a wedding, theater or rally still find it appropriate.

Fri Sep 6, 2019, 12:35 AM
Sep 2019

I'm talking about is far more important than some hungry baby. It's all about me, me, me."

I don't have kids and can be as pissed as anyone else when some kid is acting up in the supermarket line. But, I have learned over the years that that mother, and occasionally father, is dealing with this kid 24/7 and will still be dealing with it long after I leave. My small inconvenience is meaningless and says more about me than about the family of the screamer. Often times some of us have sympathized with an embarrassed parent and tried to help calm the kid down.

I have no problem with bringing babies and small kids to most political events. Sure, it would be proper to get them out of there if they act up too much, but people are always talking about the family as the basis of our society, so what is so wrong about bringing the whole family?

OK, don't bring the kids to the opera, but this wasn't an opera.

This was a curmudgeon who thinks far too highly of himself. I watched the clip of Obama with the crying kid and was in awe. And Harris' connection to kids is just what we need in the White House again. It's not just kids-- that's just the most striking view of a humanity that's needed in politics today.

My son and his wife have a baby who's one year old.. and I am refreshed first hand how much a baby needs to be with their mother when they're so young. They get hungry and need to be nursed for one important thing. No idea what was the case with the baby at the Sanders' event but he was rude and showed no empathy to the parents or crying baby.

Tue Sep 10, 2019, 12:04 PM
Sep 2019

Once SCOTUS rules on something, such as that the official count stands, demanding that they take it back is pretty silly. One can either accept a SCOTUS ruling, or make an idiot out of oneself trying to convince people that there's another court that they can appeal that to get it overturned.

Gore was a lawyer, so he sorta knows about these things with SCOTUS.

FYI - There were more recounts going on, they would just not be allowed to be entered into the official as per SCOTUS. So he didn't need to "demand" a recount. He just didn't waste time or lie to people that a recount would change the SCOTUS ruling.

I hope that clears things up for you.

to ask how he was going to do it but she didn't come out and say that, for some reason. Bernie said, I've been talking about this for years! That's the point, it's just talk. Bernie went into the same routine of how he single-handedly championed universal health care, higher minimum wage, free college. Inslee has influenced other candidates on climate change but that's because he's DONE it.

He goes on about his plans and promises and Whoopi says "Everybody says that!"

Then McCain reads some Trump Tweets about rigged primaries and Bernie says something about how before the first Iowa caucus vote in 2016, Hillary had 500 superdelegates. Whatever that means. The Mueller report reported Russian operatives bought social media advertisements alleging that Hillary committed voter fraud in the Iowa caucuses, so I guess that's where Bernie got the idea.

After Whoopi asks him if he'll change that big corporations don't pay taxes and he says "Of course I'll change it!" was the only thing that struck me as too irritable. She clearly doesn't like him.

Joy and Sunny went right along with the claim that Bernie's the only one who thinks health care is a human right, agreed that (for us, usual Democratic issues) were "radical" before Bernie. Ugh. But none of them are actual political pundits (except McCain and that doesn't count because too stupid) and don't actually know that much about politics. They should read DU.

bash verb (CRITICIZE)
[ T ] to criticize someone severely:

He kept bashing local government officials.

The OP stated "A few weeks ago, I mentioned how Bernie always seems angry and shouting during the debates"

That is a generalistic statement conveying severe displeasure and criticism towards the candidate, aka: "bashing," according to most definitions of the term.

but I think his overall message seems to have good intent. I'm not sure who will be the best candidate for the presidency, but they all have their own flaws. I think Bernie is the most vocal and outspoken of all the candidates, and it puts an X on him, easier to identify his flaws than say mayor pete, or klobachar. I know its important to study the temperaments of potentials potus', but in the end, he is a human being, and he is really coming from a place of urgency. I think that's what it often is with him; a sense of urgency. he gets excited, and in the moment about what he's talking about. I know I'm not running for pres, but I get like this myself. In the moment, and full of passion, and when a distraction breaks my train of thought, my patience wears thin. M

Fri Sep 13, 2019, 12:05 PM
Sep 2019
Sanders’ life in electoral politics started on Oct. 23, 1971, in Plainfield, Vermont, in the library of Goddard College, a campus that doubled as a lefty hot spot, when the nascent anti-war Liberty Union Party was looking for someone to run for U.S. Senate. Sanders was barely 30 years old. He had thick-rimmed glasses and dark, curly hair, and his toddler son, Levi (pronounced LEH-vee), was seated in his lap. Sanders raised his hand.
