(2,701 posts)compassion are traits that you either have or you don't. This is why Joe is so loved - a fact that so many people, sadly, choose to deny...

That's the way to do it! Get the crowd WITH you... not HORRIFIED by your actions.
The parent of a crying baby KNOWS their baby is crying. They KNOW that all eyes (and ears) are on them. They already feel self-conscious and are looking for an exit while trying to calm their infant.
What good purpose does it serve for anyone to try and humiliate them by scolding them in the rude manner that we've recently seen? How does finger-wagging and humiliating the parent help?
On the other hand... it's not at all hard to show a little COMPASSION. It most certainly IS possible to step back and take a break from one's prepared words... acknowledge the disruption with humor and grace. Give the parent time to gather themselves (and the infant) and regain control over the situation --- WITHOUT SCOLDING THEM, and WITHOUT TELLING THEM TO SHUT UP.
In the above clip, Biden seizes the opportunity to turn the whole thing into a positive.

(42,862 posts)That should have been "exit". Oh well... I guess the meaning wasn't lost.

(7,277 posts)I read it as "looking for a reason to exist" and that took me back to moments of humiliation I won't forget.

(581 posts)I do believe there has been an overreaction to the Sanders thing.
Sanders spoke in a soft tone. He didn't seem irritated to me.
