Extremely desperate Tim Ryan seems to think attacking Biden will help him

Huge miscalculation.

Ryan's doing so poorly that in the latest Morning Consult poll, he's at 1%, which is sorta/kinda tied with 8 other Democrats MC has at 1% (and tied for 9th place)...except Ryan's almost at the bottom of those candidates polling at 1%. The only 1% candidate doing worse than Ryan is Marianne Williamson. The only candidate doing worse than her is Bill de Blasio, at 0%.

So Ryan has apparently, but not terribly rationally, decided that the way to advance his campaign is via a nasty personal attack on the front-runner.

As reported by Bloomberg:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-09-06/tim-ryan-says-he-doesn-t-think-biden-has-energy-to-defeat-trump

Democratic presidential candidate Tim Ryan said Thursday he doesn't have faith that a "declining" Joe Biden can defeat Donald Trump in the general election next year.

“I just think Biden is declining,” Ryan said of the Democratic presidential campaign’s front-runner during a phone call. “I don’t think he has the energy. You see it almost daily. And I love the guy.”

Ryan's racing to the bottom in terms of nasty campaigning (the "And I love the guy" line just makes this attack worse), and I predict he'll soon be racing Bill de Blasio to see who can be the absolute lowest in the polls.

Ryan's desperate comments reminded me of something CNN analyst Harry Enten tweeted today:

A number of people ran for prez under the belief that Biden would either not run or his support would collapse. Well he did run, and his support hasn't abated yet.

Ryan announced he was running for president just a few weeks before Biden did. And there were quite a few people predicting back then that Biden wouldn't run, since he was waiting so long to make the official announcement.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

contemptible and genuinely shocking because they had no adequate, much less better, replacement for her. They just wanted to take the most powerful woman in our history out and were literally willing to risk the nation's future to get her.

So it's not surprising that he's again counting no costs to his acting out, but why? He wants to draw at least a respectable showing of Biden supporters to himself before dropping out, but vicious attacks on a candidate they like won't do that! And honest, responsible criticisms of Biden would probably serve his electoral needs back home a lot better also.

Biden's farther left of course, a solid liberal, but Ryan claims to be socially liberal and to also want to bring the nation together. Is he jealous? Resentful of doing so much worse? America's Democrats elected only 27 blue dogs to the house and 91 women. Shouldn't that have been a clue that leading an attack on women in power in the supposed Year of the Women might not be a winning move?

Good riddance when he's out. His rhetoric sounds good for a blue dog, but his behaviors in trying to take out the party leaders most likely to further his avowed goals says he doesn't really mean them:

Center for Public Integrity: "Longtime Ohio congressman Tim Ryan fancies himself a bridge between two key factions of Democratic voters: white, blue-collar workers in the Rust Belt who defected from the party to Donald Trump’s camp in 2016, and the growing base of nonwhite, liberal city dwellers.

While some see the Democrats’ future as a choice between the two groups, Ryan thinks he can unite them — and in doing so unseat Trump in 2020

“It’s time for us to invest in our values so we can focus on what really matters: healing and uniting our nation,” Ryan said when announcing his bid.

Yeah, right.
