Gabbard: Impeachment would only tear U.S. apart

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) said in a new interview that she opposes an effort by dozens of House Democrats for an impeachment inquiry into the president, saying it would cause further divisions within the U.S.

In an interview on "Full Court Press with Greta Van Susteren," the 2020 candidate for president took a firm stance against impeachment, putting her at odds with other Democratic candidates for president including Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

"I don’t [support impeachment,]" Gabbard said. "You know, I think it’s important for us to think about what is in the best interest of the country and the American people, and continuing to pursue impeachment is something that I think will only further to tear our country apart."

"Make no bones about it: We need to defeat Donald Trump. But I think it’s important for our country’s sake and our future that the voters in this country are the ones who do that, and I believe that we will," Gabbard added.

132 House Democrats have come out in favor of beginning impeachment proceedings, though the issue is not supported by Democratic establishment leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who has called for investigations into the president to continue.

A Monmouth University poll in August found that 57 percent of Americans want to see Trump replaced with a different president, but also found that just over a third support beginning impeachment proceedings.

Matt Drudge, Trey Gowdy, and Breitbart. Why stop now?

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/rosiegray/tulsi-gabbard-maga-debate

On Wednesday night, Matt Drudge, the reclusive Drudge Report impresario, tweeted that Gabbard had won his site’s online debate poll. As of Thursday afternoon, Gabbard was featured on the top left of the Drudge Report, with several linked headlines like “SHOCK: GABBARD WINS FIRST DEBATE POLL…” and “AND SHE IS MOST SEARCHED NAME DURING DEBATE.”

Breitbart News devoted a lot of its debate coverage to Gabbard, writing several articles about her. Breitbart writer Joel Pollak livestreamed his exchange with Gabbard in the spin room after the debate, the only candidate who got that treatment.

“The Drudge straw poll has you winning by far,” he asked her. “What was it that carried it for you?”

Mike Cernovich, the “new right” social media personality, tweeted Wednesday night about the increase in Google searches for Gabbard, writing, “Tulsi Gabbard was breakthrough star of the night.”

Gabbard:

You know, I think it’s important for us to think about what is in the best interest of the country and the American people, and continuing to pursue impeachment is something that I think will only further to tear our country apart.

Pelosi:
I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.

75. Pelosi's most recent comments suggest she will push for impeachment once there is enough support.
Sun Sep 8, 2019, 07:28 AM
Sep 2019
“The public isn’t there on impeachment. It’s your voice and constituency, but give me the leverage I need to make sure that we’re ready and it is as strong as it can be,” Pelosi told Democrats during a caucus-wide conference call on Friday afternoon, according to a source on the call.

Pelosi made the comments in response to Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.), who shared how people in her district wanted to talk about impeachment.

While advocating for a cautious approach, Pelosi didn’t rule out the possibility of impeachment. The Democratic leader has faced continued pressure on the issue as the number of Democrats who have come out in support for impeachment in some form has swelled to at least 130.

“The equities we have to weigh are our responsibility to protect and defend the Constitution and to be unifying and not dividing. But if and when we act, people will know he gave us no choice. If he cannot respect the Constitution, we’ll have to deal with that. It’s about patriotism, not partisanship,” Pelosi said Friday.

... Impeachment will tear people apart more than what? Gabbard is too late for the party... The things Crooked Donald has said and done have not done any tearing apart? In my opinion, impeachment will be mild, compared to what Crooked Donald has already done. I am in favor of timely impeachment. I don't want a vote clearing Crooked Donald before the election, and/or giving President Pence any advantages.

. . . It is about the message that is sent to future Presidents about the kinds of behavior that will go unchallenged. The surest way to guarantee that we will see more presidents like Trump, and even worse (if that's possible), is to fail to send that message loud and clear NOW!

but there were some similarities like the obsessive posting . and their problem with black and lgbt people. it wasn't so openly bigoted but more like dismissive.

but i guess it's possible they were different in which case i would say princetonian was just a straight up putin troll . this poster seemed to always be there when other trolls came on posting bs which ended up getting removed and they were banned. he was even defended banned trolls .

while oberliner was the usual flame bait seeking troll.

Sometimes it's more important to take a stand for what we believe is correct, and against things we feel to be wrong, than to do nothing for the sake of a supposedly united country that is mostly more symbolic and a dream than real.

It's not like we haven't taken a stance in this way before. During both the Revolutionary War and in the Civil War, we physically fought against our countrymen in an attempt to set our country on the difficult path of freedom and democracy. The detractors said then much the same back then as they do now and are just as wrong.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
