Kamala Harris Apologizes for Her Reaction to 'Mentally Retarded' Remark About Trump

New York Times

Senator Kamala Harris of California apologized on Saturday after a man attending a town hall called President Trump’s actions “mentally retarded” and she responded with a chuckle.

The exchange occurred during a discussion with the Democratic presidential candidate on Friday in New Hampshire.

A man in the audience asked what Ms. Harris planned to do in the next year to “diminish the mentally retarded” actions of the president.

Members of the audience applauded and laughed. Ms. Harris, who was standing on a stage several feet from the man who spoke, chuckled and responded with, “Well said, well said.”

However, to cut Harris a bit of slack, it appears to be the result of a quick response to a question without having allowed enough time to process it and consider a proper response. And this is a very delicate subject to say the least. This situation is a common occurrence on the campaign trail. In this instance, I would surmise that the questioner was alluding to Trump's declining mental capabilities and/or personality disorders, while Harris in turn replied in that context.

He paused and considered what to say before he said it, then went on to repeat it. I'm not a Harris advocate (would vote for her in a heartbeat however, if she were to win the nomination), but a rapid fire misspeak on her part does not begin to measure up to the POSPOTUS advocating the shooting of refugees on a conditional basis before a MAGAt mob.

I hope she's apologizing to those who believe retarded is a pejorative and not to Trump who is a dolt.
