Harris's lack of presence in New Hampshire could be an issue

A veteran journalist based in New Hampshire said Monday Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) hasn’t visited the Granite State as much as her fellow Democratic presidential contenders, and warned that this could hurt her in the early primary state.

“She hasn’t been here a lot and that’s kind of a touchy issue for her,” Paul Steinhauser told Hill.TV, referring to Harris.
“I asked her about that again right after her convention speech and she once again vowed, ‘I’m going to be here a lot,’ but she’s been saying that all year.”
“She hasn’t made the number of visits that the other top contenders have made and that could be an issue for her when people get to vote here in the New Hampshire primary,” he added.

Steinhauser’s comments come after the Harris's campaign in New Hampshire accidentally leaked an internal memo, which seemingly acknowledged that her campaign had faced a “summer slump” in the state.

Harris is in fifth place in New Hampshire (with 7% support) behind South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, according to a recent CBS poll that was released over the weekend..

She's essentially a non-factor in the first two early primary states. I don't see any pathway to the nomination if she doesn't improve her current polling situation in either. In Iowa, she's fourth - but not even a jumbled fourth. Her average is just 8.5% - while the third place candidates, Sanders and Warren, are nearly ten-points higher than that.

In NH, her average is even worse - she's tied with Mayor Pete for fourth and polling at 7.3%. That's ten-points worse than Warren on average. Numbers like that are not going to get her the nomination.

The good news is that Harris has nowhere to go than up and if she can somehow climb into the top-two in Iowa, she can play up her comeback kid rise similarly to Clinton in 1992, Kerry in 2004 and Hillary in 2008.

I have always found it absurd that two tiny states that are demographically- not representative of America and especially our party- carry so much weight in choosing our nominee. Iowa will probably support Trump anyway.

The process is absurd.

As is the number of candidates muddling the poll numbers.

Steyer, Yang, Williamson, etc - get out.

I really think she has the best shot in the General to counter Trump's gaslighting, and excite Af Am voters to turn out.

on California and to a lesser extent Nevada. She may have poll results that tell her campaign that the first two states are useless and it be better to spend time in Nevada and South Carolina and of course California with it's treasure trove of delegates.

Let's face it, if she wins California by a sizable margin, she would leap frog into 1st place. California is at the beginning of the season in 2020.
