The tweet is from Tom Watson and he's not a Biden supporter but he does a good job of tweeting what he likes about other candidates than his preferred one.

(31,261 posts)He had a brutal stutter. Oakland had either won the AFC Championship or the Super Bowl and his play made him the most valuable player of the game. The network interviewer called him up and asked him a question, what happened next was enough to make a person cry, Lester Hayes could not get out one clear word, the harder he tried the worse his stuttering became. It was easy to see panic in Hayes' face, after a painful minute, the interviewer ended the interview. Of course the sports stories the next day were not good, people wondered how Hayes had gotten through college and there were plenty of dumb jock references. Fortunately for Hayes, one person that was listening that night was a woman who was a professor and speech pathologist, she saw something. The professor somehow got through to Lester Hayes and started working with him. What she had seen was that he was trying to talk too fast and his verbalization could not keep up with his thoughts, so she trained him to slow down his speech and pause if he needed to. After the professor worked with him for a few months, Hayes was able to do television interviews, talking slowly at first but eventually moving up to a normal speech pace, he was not dumb, in fact he was pretty intelligent and insightful about the game of football and life itself.
When I watched the video of the Biden supporter, what the professor taught Lester Hayes kept ringing in my head, "slow down talking guy, don't try to get the words out fast". It took courage for the man to speak to the crowd, it is sort of sad that someone like the professor that helped Hayes was not watching.

(25,136 posts)I don't stutter, but never know what's going to come out of my mouth. I get to the middle of a sentence and give up. I guess it's my shyness, but could be a condition with a name, I don't know.
So to me the Gaffe Biden thing is especially ridiculous. Anyone who does a lot of public speaking, I am in awe. As far as spoken language is concerned, I'd much rather communicate in hisses, barks, whines, sighs, growls, purrs, things like that. So much easier.

"Gaffe Biden".. he owns it! We all have our different ways of how we communicate the best.. I'm in awe of those like President Obama who do it so well.
Some people don't have filters and others have a strong filter.. I'm one of the latter.. mostly. Once in awhile I surprise myself.
Purr!

(78 posts)He was out front of everyone on gay marriage equal rights.
He was right in 2009, before we withdrew combat troops, but did not prevail, that Iraq should be broken into 3 countries similar to the status before it was mashed together after WWII.
He was effective and a gentleman when he had to debate that witch from Alaska.
And, just an aside, he took Rudy Guillianis legs out from under him with Joes famous line in 2007, Rudy - every sentence out of his mouth has a noun, a verb and 9/11.
I mean, these are right up there. Like Warrens, I approved this message tweet yesterday responding to Cramer.

Trump is a bully, and Joe has been standing up to bullies his entire life, Owens said in an interview. Joes stuttering, I think, is one of the principal reasons a major, major, major reason that he is the good and compassionate and kind man that he is.
About 3 million Americans suffer from the speech impediment of stuttering, marked by involuntary repetition of sounds, syllables or words. According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, most children outgrow their stutter, but for 25% of them, stuttering is a lifelong challenge.
Biden has overcome the serious stutter of his youth, but remnants of it resurface on occasions such as when he is very tired, he said in a 2016 speech. Experts on stuttering who follow him closely say they have noticed it on several occasions during the campaign, such as an interview on The View when he addressed complaints about his tendency to touch and hug women while campaigning, and an April speech in Pittsburgh launching his campaign, when he struggled with words.
