How it helped their families, food, closing, housing costs, education and stabilized families. It made a big difference. Very good article.

Thu Sep 12, 2019, 08:44 PM

skeptical of 1 plan, Medicare-for-All, Biden isn’t exactly playing straight with numbers.

Sanders’ $32 trillion is supposedly what we spend in aggregate over 10 years on healthcare, or $3.2 trillion a year. He’s saying that his MFA will cost roughly the same. (I think he’s short a bunch, but that’s a different debate.)

Biden is saying his plan is only $750 Billion a year, but I think he’s leaving out a bunch of employer insurance and out-of-pocket costs.

I do think preserving choice with a Public Option is an easier sale because there are a lot of obtuse and selfish voters out there who can’t see single payer is a more rational healthcare financing system. They won’t be convinced in next year.

Democratic debate live updates: Candidates launch opening statements

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/democrats-gear-abc-news-debate-houston-front-runners/story?id=65390001

8:17 p.m.: The top four candidates also give opening statements

California Sen. Kamala Harris targets President Donald Trump: "But here's what you don't get. What you don't get you is that the American people are so much better than this. And we know that the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us, regardless of our race, where we live or the party with which we're registered to vote ... And now, President Trump, you can go back to watching Fox News."

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., pitched his long-standing message of fundamental economic change to benefit the country's working class: "It goes without saying that we must and will defeat Trump, the most dangerous president in the history of this country. But we must do more. We must do more. We have got to recognize that this country is moving into a form of society where a handful of billionaires control the economic and political life of this country."

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., talks up her Houston roots before touting why she should be at the top of the ticket: "I got my big opportunity about a half mile down the road from here at the University of Houston, back when it cost $50 a semester ... I know what's broken, I know how to fix it and I'm going to lead."

However the true savings from cradle to grave single payer is that there is a financial incentive to invest in disease prevention. That is why western Europe is healthier and spends less per person per year. But this is way too advanced health policy for a Democratic debate.

How do we go from what we have to M4A. Simplistic answers to that question is all we have.

Warren may be expert but she hasn’t told us how it works, how it is paid for, what do we pay, what changes will providers have to accept.

Nobody knows what M4A is not even Warren!

We know what the ACA is and what a public option is. We almost had both. We almost had universal affordable health care. The fastest way to get there is not in dreaming up some fantasy that can’t get through Congress.

242. Medicare (traditional Part B) has the lowest cost per claim
Thu Sep 12, 2019, 08:50 PM
Sep 2019

in the industry. There is a small overhead built into the budget to allow for rent increases, employee raises etc. (no obscene CEO and upper management salaries)
It also has the lowest error percentage and the fastest turnaround time, which result in high user satisfaction (both patients and providers). While the reimbursement rates to physicians are lower as compared to other insurances, the Medicare payments are dependable and because of the low error percentages, very few appeals are needed.

Medicare has focused more on preventative services than in the early days. When I was a clailms examiner for Part B, routine care was not covered, flu shots were not covered, etc. The only covered preventative services were Pap Smears and screening Mammograms but back then they were subject to deductible. The list of covered preventative care has grown tremendously.

I chose traditional Part B Medicare because it is good in all 50 states and there are no restrictive networks. If I am visiting my sisters in KY or NC or our daughter in AZ I can see a doctor without dealing with out of network cost increases

I went to see a doctor yesterday. The office was bustling with only me and another guy being younger. Doctors offices here are doing just fine with Medicare. That was one of the most complex offices that I have seen, with several receptionists and a billing manager, and a couple of women that were working with existing and new clients on the phone. All told, there must have been 16-17 people employed by that office, on a large building that only it occupied.

Thu Sep 12, 2019, 09:19 PM

Compare that to an American doc's admin costs of nearly 33% - per patient.

That means that on third of the cost of your doctor's visit is going to pay for the salaries of the staff he needs to sort through and contact all the insurance companies to deal with the insurance company you actually have.

And then, you can't totally depend on your insurance company actually willing to pay the doctor.

Your healthcare system (which really isn't a system at all) is one hot mess. And YOU are paying through the nose (and every other orifice) for it.

I am just saying, if they want to make an honest case, they need to look at retirement benefits. Some of these were union negotiated. It is simply not true that everyone loses coverage through

Fri Sep 13, 2019, 01:48 PM
Sep 2019

if, Heaven forbid, he winds up being our nominee. They’ll lambaste him as a socialist, a Communist, a fascist, and some “ists” we never heard of. And he WILL lose. Too many voters who pay little attention will be taken in by that manipulative trick and not vote, or write somebody else in, which will further water-down the shoulder-to-shoulder support we need, en masse.

And nobody understands ignorance and how to take advantage of it like the bad guys do.

He’s too big a turn-off for the mainstream electorate. I WILL vote for him if he’s all we’ve got. After all, as a proud and active Indivisible member, I did take the Indivisible Pledge to vote for whoever the Democrats nominate. But if it’s him I will do so half-heartedly.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Sorry, folks. Love and honor Biden. But he HAS been making horrible blunders, some of them memory related. We need to talk about it - in private - before the GOP turns it into a favorite and unrebuttable talking point. However, this was a crappy time to do it, when the candidates are all stronger by sticking together. That was ugly, and he just effectively ended his candidacy.
