Bernie Sanders: “Let us be clear, Joe, in the United States of America, we have spending twice as much per capita on health care as the Canadians or any other major country on Earth,”

Biden: “This is America,”

It's a treadmill that never stops. Education costs a fortune, thus Dr. salaries are high to repay the loans. Hospital costs are so high because Dr. salaries are high, construction costs are high because the crews make a good buck, medical equipment is expensive because technologists are well paid, and on & on.

All I tried to emphasize is that you can't just say HC is the most expensive in the World without explaining a big part of the reason why it is.

she knew what was needed for all our childhood illnesses, and pharmaceuticals could be purchased without prescription. It not only saved the family a ton of doctor bills, but we got the meds quickly without delay.

Here in good old USA, it costs me $125-175 for a routine office visit to a doc so that I can purchase a generic prescription for $4-$10 at Walmart.

47. +1 The Dem party repeatedly called Sanders a Socialist 5+ years ago so nothing new
Fri Sep 13, 2019, 01:04 AM
Sep 2019

thinking a Warren/Buttigieg ticket might be good. Sanders advanced the issues, wish Warren had supported Sanders early on last time, might have been a different outcome. Thinking once again many voters might just stay home if Biden is the nominee and then we get a repeat of the last election
The ACA undoubtedly helped millions of people, but the Obama/Biden admin dismissed the move for a universal HC system in favor of keeping for the profit companies in business with government subsidies, afraid to let others have a voice, such as the PNHP. And still we have hundreds of thousands filing for bankruptcy for medical bills, we knew this over a decade ago. It has been instructive to watch the process from the late 2000's to now, although not particularly comforting, watching the Dems bend to corporate interests without a fight. Since then my daughter went into the medical field with huge debt, my husband went through a long battle with cancer and complications from treatment. Even with good insurance it was 10k plus a year in annual of out pocket expenses and much more in lost wages, few could survive such an onslaught. I'm no economist, but common sense tells me that the larger pool of insured people spread across various ages and needs is the best, not some cherry picking system of keeping private insurance when young. I'm not dissing the docs, when you see the bills and their compensation it is hard to believe that some get paid $40-50 per visit for a transplant doc with all the additional training and debt they take on. Yet the executives of large insurance and pharmaceutical are compensated into 7 figures, well you need to ask the question of what is fair and who is doing the actual work. I hate labels, sure I learn more to the Dem side, but they are not without fault, including the Dems who labeled Sanders a socialist years ago, but many have come around to seeing things a bit more like his. Now it is hard a distinction to fight for the people while this administration tosses out the term and equates it with failed with governments. Started watching the equity markets in late 99, then became aware of the political interaction, IWR vote was the low exact low of the market in 2002. Tax breaks to help corporations buy back stock, increasing the national debt, but also their earning per share and stock prices, one cannot separate the two. Warren does state it more succinctly than Sanders, who is the government going to for?
Biden calling a Socialist? Honestly!

I'm undecided, prefer Beto but Biden just looks the part. I'm more progressive than Joe but he's vetted, is very well respected abroad and just has the Obama coat tails. The advantage he has is he is simply well liked. Agian, I prefer a younger more progressive nominee but Joe looks the most Presidential on stage- for what it's worth

notice improvement when he gets (or takes) the opportunity to put across his strong points. But, he's also gotten more time on each debate, which opens him up to mistakenly choose the wrong word. I'm aware (thanks to DU) that Joe Biden has courageously fought a stuttering problem, but there's always the possibility that fair-minded people might mistake it as a sign of age.
