Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMatthews loves himself some Klobuchar
He is enamored by her middle of the country, moderate, git 'er done attitude and likes to poo poo us coastal elites. Frankly, I am getting extremely tired of being told that that one rural voter's voice in the middle part is more important than the 10 - 100 'urban' or 'coastal elites' voices as his/her counterparts.

(28,749 posts)That rural vote may/does count for more than some of those coastal elite votes.

(5,693 posts)and that divisive language by people like Klobuchar, pitting coastal and urban voters against rural midwestern ones, is not helping. Find commonalities instead of pitting us against each other.

Everyone is important. That said, Klobuchar is one of my favorites.

(28,075 posts)He might be shocked to learn that the "middle of the country" voters in her home state appear to favor someone else.
The "Bean Ballot" poll the DFL ran in it's booth at the Minnesota State Fair was won by Warren. The last scientific poll I saw (and it's been more than a month) of Minnesota voters had her coming in 4th behind Bernie, Warren, & Biden (not necessarily in that order)
The picture below was taken 4 days before the fair ended. You did have to be willing to sign up as a Democrat to get a soybean to drop in the tube of your choice. A friend working the booth on Labor Day (the last day of the fair) told me they had had to bring in a second tube for Warren. Amy came in second, but she was way behind.
If Amy is the nominee, I will vote for her (I've voted for her 3 times in the past) but my heart won't be in it & I may cry all the way to the polls. After 4 years of Trump we need someone who can excite the voters and who is willing to make real, progressive change and push back against the bullies. (And I wish someone would ask Amy if she's still pals with Lindsey Graham.)
(And I just switched my preference from "Undecided" to Warren about 2 minutes ago.)

(17 posts)So, I guess, being born on a dairy farm in Maryland with ancestors who landed in New England in 1638 means I'm just not American enough to vote for Senator Klobuchar.

(5,693 posts)Hubby has Mayflower ancestry. But I guess we're not as American as the folks in the Midwest. The only true Americans are those who were here long before any of us set foot here. So, I would prefer that our candidates seek our common interests and not pit us against one another geographically. Especially considering that even Midwestern states have urban areas.

(1,713 posts)I can assure you that not one person on that stage will get significant rural votes. These folks are dug in. Economics are irrelevant here. They are regressing. My county was blue until W Bush and had trended red since. We turn out in urban areas and grab swing votes in the suburbs. The rural vote is not moving.

(4,390 posts)record of representative service, I'm not sure she's presidential material. I particularly didn't care much that she used phrases that smack perhaps that could endear her to a lot of fundamentalist christians of the midwest/northern plains. Perhaps I haven't caught up, but I was under an impression that "dairy" geographic areas were/are hot beds of Lutherans - Missouri Synod variety are fundie wack jobs; more moderate yet worrisome are those whose affiliation says it all, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. That said, she seems someone who works hard and fair, one whom I'd be glad to include in community with family and friends -- just not in the Oval Office.
