Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIt's so obvious that any woman or man on that stage tonight would make an infinitely better
president than Trump. So since I would take any of them perhaps I should concentrate on supporting whoever has the best chance of beating Trump. l haven't yet decided on who I think that person is, but when I decide that is I where I will offer my support.

(54,770 posts)I think it will look better to that 3 to 5% of voters who might swing Democratic in 2020 when we are down to just a few candidates. Those are the folks who will determine if GOPers lose in GE.

(5,995 posts)Margins are closer the farther down the list, but the top tier are not too far apart right now to think there is a clear winner at this time.
HRC looked like the sure winner at this point in 2008, particularly with Black voters, so there's no way to see what will come about before the first contests early next year.
My view is to look to the proposals/policies and temperament to get a comfort level going into the primaries.
Our success in Nov 2020 is as dependent on folks like you and me getting involved locally as it does on picking a particular politician right now.

(4,558 posts)We've really got to start focusing less on those. We already know, all too painfully, that our candidates can win the popular vote.. by a large margin, and still lose the presidency.
Battleground match-up polls are the ones that we have to focus on:
Vs Trump in Pennsylvania
Vs Trump in Wisconsin
Vs Trump in Ohio
Vs Trump in Michigan
Vs Trump in Arizona
Vs Trump in Florida
Was REALLY hoping to see Vs Trump in Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina come into battleground territory, but the more this season goes on the less I'm feeling that's going to happen.
What matters to those voters.. that is what will either give us progress or 4 more years of disaster.

(82,383 posts)That's the roadblock for every man and woman on the stage too.
As usual, we obsess about the Presidency as if that's enough. I remember the "disappointment" in Obama that went on throughout his Presidency. Regardless of what Congress looked like. Even when it's both houses with a Dem. majority, it doesn't produce most of the policies desired.

(22,567 posts)it doesn't mean anything.
How many people on the Left in WI, MI, and PA who normally vote Democratic believed the polls there that Clinton would win and so that freed them to vote for a 3rd party or not vote at all because they bought the Big Lie that there was no difference between Clinton and Trump?
