Texas GOP Rep. Briscoe Cain says his 'AR is ready' for Beto O'Rourke, who calls that a 'death threat'

The former El Paso congressman has said he would institute a buyback program for 'weapons of war.'

Texas Rep. Briscoe Cain was taking heat on social media for a tweet he posted after Thursday night's Democratic presidential debate.

Cain, a Republican from Deer Park, tweeted, "My AR is ready for you Robert Francis," using former El Paso congressman Beto O'Rourke's legal name. O'Rourke has said he would institute a buyback program for "weapons of war."

O'Rourke reacted strongly to Cain's tweet after the debate, calling it a "death threat."

State Rep. Erin Zwiener, a Driftwood Democrat who was at the debate, scolded Cain for the strong language he used against O'Rourke, as did Rep. Mary Gonzalez, D-Clint.
