(5,376 posts)The difference between 2008 Joe Biden speaking and 2019 Joe Biden speaking is striking. A lot has changed in 11 years.

(11,986 posts)As I kind of alluded to in another post, I wonder if so much of his strong polling is based on people's memories of THAT Biden. Most voters haven't seen any of the Dem debates. When TODAY'S Biden faces Trump in a debate, I do not have confidence in the outcome. I hope we end up with someone stronger.

It doesnt hurt, as Nate Silver just pointed out, that his positions on key issues are much more in line with your average votersincluding black folks and older lifelong democrats.
Relatively few people envision a wonky Northeastern professor or a brash finger-pointing democratic socialist ideologue as their ideal candidate.
And we want to win and cleanse Washington of Trumpismnot stage a revolution.

(560 posts)A class minor-league baseball squad to the New York Yankees. I'm glad that they're smart, articulate, and the future of the party. But I'm not going to vote for them over Biden because they come wrapped in a prettier package.

I've spoken before of Biden's importance to environmental groups and issues, air, energy, water, ag, climate, extractables, public health, environment, etcetera, all the way back into the 1970s. Biden's always been important person in congress for environmental concerns. He's not always been a 21st century Inslee, but even Inslee wasn't Inslee in the 1970s -- he started in the 1990s.
We can't imagine, you know, what someone who's sent almost 50 years studying, negotiating, and otherwise addressing a very broad and diverse range of climate-related issues around the nation knows.
As for Democrats, the prestigious League of Conservation Voters literally used the word "thrilled" in talking about Democrats being given control of the house last November.
