New Poll Shows Biden Is The Only 2020 Democrat Who Beats Trump In The Rust Belt

While Donald Trump is deeply unpopular and polling shows that the top Democratic candidates hold consistent national leads over him, a new set of rust belt surveys shows that only former Vice President Joe Biden is leading in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

According to the Firehouse/0ptimus poll, Biden beats Trump in all three of those key states, while Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are narrowly behind in Michigan.

As the country learned in 2016, winning that trio of states is crucial if the Democrats want to prevent a second Trump term. Without carrying each of them, there’s a good chance Trump will be in the White House for another four years.

As Firehouse/0ptimus notes, “Overall, Trump continues to struggle in these three states. He trails Biden in all three states, and only leads Warren and Sanders in Michigan. His approval rating is also underwater by 4 points in Michigan, 9 points in Pennsylvania, and 12 points in Wisconsin.

It should be noted that while Biden is the only candidate in this particular poll to win each of the three key states, other pollsters have shown both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders also beating Trump in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

But no matter the polling firm, Biden continues to perform better overall than his Democratic opponents in head-to-head matchups against Trump, whether on a national or state level

Go Joe.......

Since he's got a much bigger lead against Trump compared to Biden in two out the three Rust Belt states, and Trump must win ALL THREE to take the EC.

It's way too dangerous to take a chance that Trump could squeak out another narrow win over Joe- best to go with the candidate with the biggest, safest lead over Trump in the Rust Belt, amirite?

Given the choice of sig?

Interesting you think it was President Obama’s “coat tails”. Many others are more inclined to attribute a large part of it to almost 2 years of mud slinging, accusations of “oligarch”, DNC “Ratfuckery”, and soooo much more.

Especially since it’s also against TOS, I would very respectfully recommend not channeling that year. Frankly, of all the candidates running right now, it’s a particularly bad shade when worn by the one you have chosen.

The OP left that bit out for some reason. Month are month ewarren's poll numbers are growing stronger.

Here's the thing - if the polls consistent show Warren and Sanders with strong leads in MI, PA & WI ... what's left if the argument is only electability.

There are other arguments, like the ability to get reform through Congress, but Biden supporters prefer todays polls. It's folly, like HRC found out in 2008 after SC.

And they are within the MOE for Michigan (4.5%)

Sanders lead over Trump is greater than Biden's, so who is really the "safe" candidate?

Trump MUST win all 3 three Rust Belt states to take the EC, so this is good news for Dems- no need to settle for "safe" Status Quo normalcy, we can go with bold leadership and big ideas!

To be fair a lot of Biden's support is people desperately seeking stability through the familiar. President Obama was unique in the political memory of most adults. Any possiblity that they could have something like that again is a strong influencer.
We are still over a year out. That name recognition counts for a lot.

Despite the statistical improbability of a party holding the WH for more than two consecutive terms (which is one reason that there wasn't a rush of Democratic men to run), Russian interference, misogyny on both the left and right, 25 years of smears by the GOP, and voter suppression of democrats in the 3 states where she lost by a sliver.
