"SNIP.......
The New York Times and CNN will co-host the next Democratic debate near Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 15, with the possibility of a second round one night later depending on how many candidates meet the qualifying criteria, the New York Times reports.

(10,721 posts)...having 1 night to needing 2 nights. We're moving in the wrong direction.
Steyer and Yang could do so much more good with their money than use it to hopelessly seek the nomination. Not to mention all of the others who are still running for the sake of running.

(115,656 posts)There are too many candidates to have any kind of meaningful discussions of the issues and the whole thing turns into a ridiculous goatfuck where they're all looking for a way to get attention from the media by saying something unexpected or combative or just mean, because that's what the media want. We're all waiting for somebody to fuck up because that's more interesting than issues. Nothing that has been said or done at these colosseum-type spectacles have had any influence on my opinion of the candidates and they don't seem to be moving the polls much, either.

(584 posts)All of the primary candidates DROP OUT except for a selected 3.
Those three attend the "debate" which should structured so they can get the party message out. No dropping bombs on each other; no insults; no history dragged from decades ago that can be used by trump against the anointed one.
Our present debate format and behavior by the "contestants" is suicide.

(19,240 posts)Plus, if there are more potential candidates, it will be harder for the opposition to start working on their Big Lies for the general election. IN 2007-2008 there were a bunch of candidate all the way into Iowa. I say let Iowa narrow the field.

(10,721 posts)As I keep saying, the average voter isn't going to bother trying to distinguish between 20 (or even 10) people, most of whom they've never heard of. Therefore, the polling (and, eventually, the voting) doesn't really reflect much more than name recognition. That said, I'm fairly confident at least half the current field will drop out before Iowa (they won't have the money to continue).
Steyer and Yang could do so much more good with their money than muddy the waters and hopelessly seek the nomination. And then there's Bennet, Bullock, Gabbard, Ryan, etc. Again, they just muddy the waters and make people not want to pay attention.
We're going from having 1 debate night to needing 2 in October. That's not the way this is supposed to work. We're going backward.

(2,343 posts)they arent going to win and that delaying the inevitable is detrimental to the ultimate nominee. These no-shots consume donations and precious debate minutes while, in desperation, lobbing verbal bombs at top tier candidates that serve only to provide Republican talking points and damaging reputations of our best shots at the presidencies. Thats what happens when 2/3 of the candidates on the stage have nothing to lose by throwing out crazy ass unpopular ideas and pot shots at our best.
I just dont understand if youre sitting at 5% or less how you can conceivably believe youre plausible.
We need the options whittled down to five candidates.
