My wife made a point about having to get up to flip the record to listen to side 'B' and I told her that is part of the fun. Some vinyls were not recorded to CD, it is the only way to enjoy that music now. Yes, there are ways to record from vinyl to digital, but it is not the same.

Who can forget buying the latest Beatles album and reading everything on the cover while listening to it for the first time, looking at the pictures, taking out the poster that came with it, etc. And every time one listened to the album, going through the same ritual of enjoying the pictures, re-reading the text, etc. Doesn't get any better than that.

mailing. Much ado about nothing, but I guess it is expected when some seem to think they can learn everything they need to know about life from twitter. I had to laugh at a group of younger teens/early adults who corrected a friend of mine that "we don't refer to (the smokable, edible natural plant otherwise known as marijuana, pot, cannabis) as other than "weed," that the psychoactive drug MDMA which even a few years ago was referred to as "ecstasy" is now not understood by any other term other than "molly" and on and on with considerable annoyance at the suggestion otherwise ...

Just some examples, but it only underscores how many seem to live very much in the "now" with total disregard for even very recent history and not simply with respect to social aspects. Disquieting to me and will have repercussions I think.

The term is still relevant until they are no longer manufactured and sold. Would I have used that term to reflect how one played media to children to reinforce their language skills and aid in learning? No. But it is not accurate to claim the term has disappeared from the lexicon due to absolute irrelevance.

Sat Sep 14, 2019, 11:31 AM
Sep 2019

consider, for one moment the comments, positions, statements, and yes social media postings that are going to come back to bite them in 20, 30, 40 years. Perhaps then will facing their own potential (karmic) consequences make them somehow appreciative of experience, able to acknowledge that beliefs, attitudes, philosophies change over time and yes, people are fully able of absorbing new information and evolving.

Not to mention that aging and its consequences are highly variable within individuals just as intelligence, stamina, the ability and willingness to become informed, and character varies across ALL ages. Of course, by that time-- for a few-- it will be too late. If I were a vengeful person, I'd hope to see that. But in reality, I hope they, themselves, evolve well before that time.

I am almost 76-- A dear friend passed away 2 years ago. He was about 5 years older than I at the time. His brain was still working much better than mine does now.. I forget stuff.. etc..
But, I am in better physical shape than, I would bet, 95% of people my age, and my life outlook, experiences, is probably much healthier than those others--

So.. as you say.. everybody is different.....

13. Vinyl is analog and thus has a much higher fidelity
Sat Sep 14, 2019, 09:52 AM
Sep 2019

When sounds are converted to a digital format like wav or mp3, a fast Fourier transform is done to digitize the track. Depending upon the bit rate, the fidelity is reduced by 40-70%.

Real audiophiles can tell that the music is not of high quality. They have gone back to vinyl in droves.

Record player sales are booming as a result.

Digital to analog vinyl is not 'much higher fidelity' than a CD or wav file. There are endless arguments about how much fidelity is lost by sampling down from 256/24, to 44/16, but it is less than the loss inherent in a stylus tracking a grove cut on physical vinyl.

could be 44.1/24 Wave or 88.2/24 wave or even 192/24 wave (but most engineers find anything about 96k to be overkill).

In my home studio and the commercial studio I work at, we mostly use 44.1/24 if it’s going to digital/streaming or CD and 48/24 if it’s going for broadcast. Unless the client specifies otherwise, of course.

A real 1965 blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb will run you about $2k for one in really good cosmetic condition. Fender’s 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue runs $1100 new and doesn’t lose but maybe $100-200 on the used market.

In general, any tube amp is gonna be costly/valuable because of the iron in it. Big, beefy power and output transformers are the majority of the cost.

Also, those Silvertones aren’t too valuable. 10 years ago you couldn’t give them away, then everyone found out Jack White was using them and they skyrocketed to over $1,000 for about a year. The market has since leveled out, and $400-600 in good condition is about the going price.

rather than answering the question about responsibility. AM Joy had a good discussion about this today, and why the black voters are so overwhelmingly for Biden, rather than Booker or Harris. That is, that Biden's answer makes him more acceptable to white voters who share his viewpoints, (which the minority intrinsically understands), and be more likely to vote for. I'm not sure what Biden's real attitude is; I do like him for his other talents and wide experience. Hopefully he will explain himself more fully soon.

that looked at a total of 10(??!!) low-income black families, and compared them with similar numbers of high-income families. A later study did NOT find a correlation between the number of words spoken and social class, meaning that the current wealth disparity is (GASP!) the product of historic wealth disparities and transfers.

Of course, Biden remembers the study because he desperately needs to find alibi to disguise the effects of slavery and racism.
