(4,341 posts)My wife made a point about having to get up to flip the record to listen to side 'B' and I told her that is part of the fun. Some vinyls were not recorded to CD, it is the only way to enjoy that music now. Yes, there are ways to record from vinyl to digital, but it is not the same.
Who can forget buying the latest Beatles album and reading everything on the cover while listening to it for the first time, looking at the pictures, taking out the poster that came with it, etc. And every time one listened to the album, going through the same ritual of enjoying the pictures, re-reading the text, etc. Doesn't get any better than that.

(102,214 posts)mailing. Much ado about nothing, but I guess it is expected when some seem to think they can learn everything they need to know about life from twitter. I had to laugh at a group of younger teens/early adults who corrected a friend of mine that "we don't refer to (the smokable, edible natural plant otherwise known as marijuana, pot, cannabis) as other than "weed," that the psychoactive drug MDMA which even a few years ago was referred to as "ecstasy" is now not understood by any other term other than "molly" and on and on with considerable annoyance at the suggestion otherwise ...
Just some examples, but it only underscores how many seem to live very much in the "now" with total disregard for even very recent history and not simply with respect to social aspects. Disquieting to me and will have repercussions I think.

(102,214 posts)consider, for one moment the comments, positions, statements, and yes social media postings that are going to come back to bite them in 20, 30, 40 years. Perhaps then will facing their own potential (karmic) consequences make them somehow appreciative of experience, able to acknowledge that beliefs, attitudes, philosophies change over time and yes, people are fully able of absorbing new information and evolving.
Not to mention that aging and its consequences are highly variable within individuals just as intelligence, stamina, the ability and willingness to become informed, and character varies across ALL ages. Of course, by that time-- for a few-- it will be too late. If I were a vengeful person, I'd hope to see that. But in reality, I hope they, themselves, evolve well before that time.

In general, any tube amp is gonna be costly/valuable because of the iron in it. Big, beefy power and output transformers are the majority of the cost.
Also, those Silvertones arent too valuable. 10 years ago you couldnt give them away, then everyone found out Jack White was using them and they skyrocketed to over $1,000 for about a year. The market has since leveled out, and $400-600 in good condition is about the going price.

A later study did NOT find a correlation between the number of words spoken and social class, meaning that the current wealth disparity is (GASP!) the product of historic wealth disparities and transfers.
Of course, Biden remembers the study because he desperately needs to find alibi to disguise the effects of slavery and racism.
