Sanders cancels three South Carolina campaign events to rest his hoarse voice

The 78-year-old Vermont senator's voice was raspy during Thursday night's Democratic presidential debate.

The Bernie Sanders campaign canceled three South Carolina events Saturday afternoon to help the Vermont senator combat a hoarse voice.

“After a vigorous campaign schedule, Sen. Bernie Sanders will return home following his appearance on Sunday at the College of Charleston's "Bully Pulpit" series in order to rest his voice,” the campaign wrote in an afternoon statement to reporters.

Sanders, whose polling in South Carolina trails his performance nationally, was originally scheduled to join four other candidates next Monday evening at the historic "Galivants Ferry Stump."

Joe is in great shape. Fundraising is also hard work.

I heard what he said. I thought is sounded kind of crappy. I took a look at multiple sources to see if my thoughts were correct. A lot of African-Americans feel his statement was horrible. So, I read, I pay attention, and I listen to those this affects. I am trying to convey to you what is being said outside of DU by African-Americans. To me that matters. YMMV

And why is it suddenly wrong to help poor, racially oppressed people? It's insulting to their pride to help them? This is getting dumb. By the same token, reparations should be insulting, or affirmative action. People are not thinking things through here and starting to touch ground right-wingers usually occupy.

Black people are disproportionately poor. The very claim for reparations recognizes this. This is starting to go full circle irrational. If you admit that black people in poverty are oppressed due to racism, then you are also supposed to be insulting them to claim they need help? This is getting ridiculous.

have the usual wrinkles and sag. They could easily pose for the same class reunion picture.

We need to get over what is a natural and healthy attribute in each and pay attention to their qualifications.

We will likely, if not this election, in future, as in other countries, have an older leader. Medical
advances, diet, nutrition, and in all three cases, privilege, have enabled them, as many others, to
become “super-agers.”

Wisdom is a great attribute of age, not conferred upon all, but certainly many. Scientifically, it is now known to result from a combination of knowledge and experience, a reservoir that can deepen as we age, and be accessed in healthy elders to help decision making.

Let us celebrate our elder candidates. They are one demographic in the diversity this field represents. Must we honestly compare each to each within their gender, racial, sexual orientation, and age grouping? Jeeze. Thought we Democrats were enlightened.
