Rep. Vicente Gonzalez has switched his endorsement from Castro to Biden

Jake Tapper tweet:

Tweet from Biden press secretary with the first statement from Gonzalez:

Tweet from NBC's Marianna Sotomayor (with some grammatical errors I attribute to fast typing):

More from Rep. Gonzalez flipping his endorsement on CNN: "If your polling in the low single-digits and you're not raising any resources, and your fracturing your party and getting supporters to be upset at other candidates, it certainly can't be a good thing for our party."

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

and this does seem to be a sensible attempt to reject and stay above the fray.

WRAL.com: Castro's "delivery could have been different," Gonzalez told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union," but the congressman said most of what he saw on the debate stage was "fair game in moving the process forward." Still, the Democratic Party needs to narrow the 20-person field to be successful, he said.

"We need to narrow the field and unite as Democrats to defeat (President Donald) Trump in November 2020. That's why I believe I'm moving my support to Vice President Joe Biden," Gonzalez, who represents the Texas 15th Congressional District, said.

Gonzalez called the former vice president a "steady ship" with White House experience who can defeat Trump. He called Castro, a former housing and urban development secretary under the Obama administration and former mayor of San Antonio, Texas, a qualified candidate, but said there are a number of qualified candidates.

Castro got compared to Leona Helmsley as the "Queen of Mean" on PBS last Friday, I think he's politely telling Castro maybe it's time to move on (he probably shouldn't have even been on the stage last week, he just barely squeaked in with one poll).

Now if we could just get Gonzalez to sign onto the list of Dems supporting an impeachment inquiry. It's not like he's in a swing seat and Trump is doing his district no favors economically.

But, good grief! Lol. Wonder how many don't know who Helmsley was.

Was it Gonzalez who compared Castro to her? That's a quick leap off the hilltop to the bottom if so, or for whoever did. At least he wasn't compared to Hitler.

What he declined to mention ("above the fray" at that point at least) was Castro's deplorable self sabotage. But then the timing of the endorsement said that for him.

Barack Obama may have seemed like a risky choice in 2008.

Hillary Clinton may have seemed like a safe choice in 2016.

These things are difficult to predict.
