Bidencare... honoring or usurping Obama's healthcare legacy?

Last edited Mon Sep 16, 2019, 06:34 PM - Edit history (1)

Hmmm.

One person responded:

I dunno… to be honest I don't think it will go over well.

I think for the first time Biden referred tonight to his proposal to add a public option to Obamacare as “Bidencare.”

There is something just a little bit self aggrandizing for Biden himself to try and start labeling it "Bidencare".

Obamacare got it's name when the rThugs branded the ACA that in an attempt to slur President Obama. President Obama turned the tables by embracing the term and it remains popular today.

If I were Biden, I'd drop the "Bidencare" self promotion. He sorta has ruined that as a brand name by self promoting it.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

in an attempt to denigrate the ACA.

ended up years later to be NBD as people finally figured out that the provisions of the ACA were something they liked and were one and the same with "Obamacare".

Biden should label his health care plan as Bidencare now and own it before the repukes try to hang it on him... plus it is an easy moniker to distinguish it from M4A.

If Biden or anyone else thinks it's an astute move politically to call it "Bidencare" instead of "Obamacare with a public option", well, go right ahead.

Biden himself calling it Bidencare just seems counterproductive and off message.

What most people here ignore is that Obamacare passed by the tiniest of margins, and was in the end a minor version of what was originally wanted and proposed by the Obama Administration.
If Biden (or any other Dem) is elected in a landslide, many here act like that triggers an automatic passage of whatever the candidate is proposing. Can you really see Sanders or Warren's aggressive plan being adopted by the Senate which may still be in GOP control, or at best have several Joe Manchin types that will be more interested in the folks back home than passing a once in a generation social program?

Politics is the art of the possible. That, and the question of electability, are why I am supporting and working for Biden.

Exactly.

That is why I feel it is a mistake for Biden to start self-labeling his healthcare plan "Bidencare".

I don't think i's an astute move politically.

One of Joe's greatest strengths with voters, especially black voters, is his support of the Obama presidency. If he, or anyone else for that matter, thinks the term "Bidencare" could not be a turn off for supporters of Obamacare, well, feel free to use the term.

I honestly don't recommend that Biden himself use the term in public.

VP Biden honors President Obama daily. I think it shows he is confident in his quest to perfect healthcare. He’s also owning the term before the republicans can twist it. IMO it’s good marketing and all candidates should personalize their own plans.

36. Speaker Pelosi-There's no need to reinvent health care -- just improve Obamacare
Tue Sep 17, 2019, 10:24 PM
Sep 2019

I agree with Speaker Pelosi https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/17/nancy-pelosi-no-need-to-reinvent-health-care-improve-obamacare.html?__source=sharebar|twitter&par=sharebar

Democrats should focus on making improvements to Obamacare instead of trying to reinvent the wheel with “Medicare for All,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday.

“God bless” 2020 Democratic presidential candidates putting forth Medicare for All proposals, Pelosi said in an interview with “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer. “But know what that entails.”

Pelosi’s thoughts on how to improve the nation’s health-care laws appear to align with those of former Vice President Joe Biden, who in his 2020 presidential bid is calling for building on provisions of Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act.

“I believe the path to ‘health care for all’ is a path following the lead of the Affordable Care Act,” Pelosi told Cramer. “Let’s use our energy to have health care for all Americans, and that involves over 150 million families that have it through the private sector.”
