Bernie Sanders, in Las Vegas, Previews Plan for Affordable Housing

LAS VEGAS — Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a $2.5 trillion housing policy plan on Saturday that would include ending homelessness and limiting rent increases across the country by imposing a national rent control standard.

Mr. Sanders said that over the next decade, his plan would expand public housing, increase the availability of affordable housing and cap annual rent increases nationally, regardless of income, at no more than one and a half times the rate of inflation or 3 percent, whichever is higher. His campaign said he would be releasing his full plan within the next month.

“We have an affordable housing crisis in Nevada, in Vermont and all over this country that must be addressed,” he told an audience of about 100 people at a union hall in Las Vegas, which was hit hard by the housing crisis a decade ago. “For too long, this is one of those issues that we just don’t talk about.”

This is the second time in the past 15 days that Mr. Sanders’s campaign has teased a policy rollout without releasing an actual proposal. Late last month, the Vermont senator said at a health care-focused event in Florence, S.C., that he planned to introduce legislation that would eliminate all medical debt. His campaign followed his pronouncement with a one-page overview of what the plan would entail, including canceling $81 billion of existing medical debt. The campaign also said at the time that a plan would be released within a month.

While I think this is an issue that needs to be addressed I'm somewhat less than enthused about rent control.

Also $2.5 trillion?

I guess like anything the devil's in the details.

a new fantasy idea. No facts, no how to, no source of money.

We should have a contest here to see who can out Bernie Bernie. The rules are, make up some shit about something you would like the government to do. Like 9.4 billion for electric cars for everyone. Do away with gasoline production. Buy back everyone’s gas powered cars.

No need to say how you are going to do it and no need to tell where the money will come from.

See how many people you can sucker into thinking it is a good idea.

not only will the plan solve the problems of too much or too little water...but the plan will also reduce landfill waste through reuse and reduce the cost of national healthcare and solve the housing crisis.

The entire plan is not yet detailed...however key components of the plan require Bernie supporters to grab two discarded containers (for example, water bottles)....then the entire line of bernie supporters will perform a bucket brigade to move water from the place that has too much water to the place that has too little water. bernie supporters will be gaining huge health benefits thereby reducing the cost of health care. The health improvements come from running from one crisis location to the next so that the water line is continuously effective. If at one moment, there is no overt water crisis, then the line of supporters will be directed to move water to refill reservoirs which are below average. Since all of the bernie supporters will be continously required to remain outdoors for the water brigade, that will also improve the housing crisis..since homeless people can relocate to the empty homes and claim squatters rights.
